so pretty much the only reading ang does is checking her facebook page. last time we went to california she read "angels and demons" by dan brown and LOVED it. i think it's the only book she's ever finished since leaving high school

Has she read The DaVinci Code? (I haven't read either, but I have friends who enjoyed both.)
Right now my favorite parenting app is Hypnotic Spiral. It's exactly what it sounds like. You can customize the colors and if you tap the screen, the speed changes. I don't know if it exists for iPod/Phone, but I'm sure there's something similar. There's another one I like a lot called Kitten Escape, which is a puzzle where you have to move blocks to let the cat out. Those might be too young and too old for Jacob, though.
If she loved Angles and Demons, then she'd probably enjoy the other Dan Brown books. The DaVinci Code and the newest one he just came out with. He has some other ones that are entertaining reads, too.
Davinvi Code is the sequal to Angels and Demons and it was pretty good (better then the movie, but thta's how it goes right?). Also Deception Point also by Dan Brown was good.
I'm on a big Christopher Moore kick right now, they're a kind of light approach to dark humour, A Dirty Job is about a consignment shop owner that becomes Death after his wife dies recovering from childbirth, Fluke is about Whale song, Lamb is the Gospel according to Christ's childhood friend Biff, they're all pretty fast light reads.
I really really love michael crichton's Timeline it's pretty technical and sciencey but it has an amazing story. They made a not so amazing movie with Paul Walker and Gerard Butler a while back.
All of his books are great.
Also Thomas Harris' The Red Dragon is probably one of the best books I've ever read. It's the first book in the Silence of the Lambs series also made a movie out of it. Book is just fanfriggintastic. I read it in a weekend.
