BTDT. At least you got to attempt to defend yourself. In one case, I was tried in absentia. oh, and "conveniently" my name was never brought up at the flamefest, so I couldn't even go back and tell my side.
Welcome to the idiocy of groups. Where people who are "friends" stick together even if the innocent little kid stands up and says "But the emperor HAS no clothes!" I'm sorry that you got so "kicked in the teeth".
I stress that I don't have all the details but it does seem to me that you ought to be able to question why someone uses a phrase like "the sodomy lobby" without causing too much of a catfight
( ... )
When I first read that Rowling wrote Dumbledore as gay--and yes, I believe her when she implies that was her intent from the beginning--I thought, "well, that explains a few things about his lack of any love interests in his past." And, for me, that was that.
I'm sorry you got snapped at for calling someone on their bigotry, but it doesn't surprise me that you took the high road in asking people to question their preconceived notions. That's one of the reasons I've always respected you: you have a deep-seated integrity that's missing in all too many cases.
