My book "Reading and Writing Japanese" has 85 different kanji for "ko", but a kanji I'm looking for, part of the verb "sa shi KO mu" written in a combination of kanji and kana, isn't in the list. I'm going to have to spring for a big kanji dictionary eventually if I keep this up ( Read more... )

I have the Tuttle dictionary. Send me a pic and I'll look it up for you.

It's so *sweet* of you to offer! I don't have a way to send a pic, and it's not important, for a class or anything; please don't take time you could be writing!

I like to learn new words while I'm watching anime and I enjoy looking up the kanji. Last night Crawford gave me "urusai hae da", two new words (incorrectly subbed as an apology), and I came across the word "sashikomu", meaning to insert, to penetrate. I don't know *why* that would catch my attention... ^_^

I pick apart longer words to see if the root kanji are interesting; sometimes they are sheer poetry. I was blown away by "despair" (heard in "Fight Fire" with the help of a translation). The two kanji that together form the kanji for "despair" are "extinction/cessation" and "desire/wish/expectation". It took my breath away!
