why do I feel so poor reading about what you got for Christmas?

nah. it isn't really a question of rich or poor. my immediate family is comfortable, but definitely doesn't have a huge cash flow. basically my mom is the sole breadwinner. but see, at christmas, we just go all-out. that's the way it has always been. ALSO! i do have two sets of grandparents who REALLY like to spend! but that's the way grandparents are :)

I have no grandparents. :( My family has only been in this country for the last 30 years, so most of my relatives are in another country and are not as well off as we are. I should just make more 'good' friends... So... do you want to hang out sometime? :P

You know, it's funny, but I felt bad going through a list of everything I got in my journal, too, so I didn't. Like it's some sort of a crime to have a successful family (or even one that'll spend lots of money on Christmas gifts). In any event, here's my spoiled rich kid list of Christmas presents:

Fuji FinePix 3800 Digicam
Ralph Lauren "Romance" Cologne set
3 Sweaters, 1 button-down shirt, all Polo (notice a trend?)
Rudy Ray Moore 7DVD box set
Hitman 2 for PS2
Shinobi for PS2
Sean Hannity - Let Freedom Ring (book)
Electric Lock De-Icer
Gift cert to Whole Foods

and some little things like candy and a transformer toy.

So what did you get, anyway?

i know! what's up with that? i mean it's not like my parents paid my whole way through college or paid for my car or give me $500 a week allowances. plus! it's money THEY earned and they can spend it however they want...and vise versa of course. but we all know how we feel about a certain someone, so perhaps that's why i'm angry ;)

anyway! i bet the cologne smells great! i always loved guys' cologne...YUM!!! and i saw hannity's book at the store when i was in chicago. you'll have to tell me how it is. gc's for food are ALWAYS good...especially to whole foods!

i got some neat stuff. a bunch of cds including al green's greatest hits and aimee mann's lost in space which is fantastic! it's like getting a whole new magnolia soundtrack! i adore her voice and the style. it is the absolute perfect sound for driving at night. i got some books too...the stranger by camus, a highlight. i mentioned the awesome scarf from mandsi! a bunch of gc's...old navy, maurice's ( ( ... )

ooh! i can't wait to see your jacket. i bet you look mighty snazzy.

find a swing/lounge/jazz night but I'll do a little surveillance

please do! i have to go before i die.

my family is one of those that started out with not much and worked its way to a lot

i remember you making some sort of speech about this one time. i agree with you. i can't even imagine working my ass off, and being extremely proud of myself...only to have someone completely shoot me down. i guess that's how the democrats frequently react. i hate it when life gets all complicated! i want to be 9 again!

I think friends should be happy for one another when good things happen. call me crazy but it made me smile to know that you got a lot of wonderful gifts from your wonderful family. you deserve it all and more.

you are so incredibly sweet. i definitely feel the same way about my friends. or anyone for that matter. people, especially good, decent people, deserve happiness. i don't understand how it could be any other way.

Katie, I don't know what you got for Christmas, but if anyone deserves the very best, it's you.

I look up to you for the way you have handled yourself this past year, pushing forward through the good times, and mostly bad times. You are a source of strength for me, if you know it or not.

So don't feel bad for the things you have been given.

I agree -- there is a difference between EXPECTING loads and loads of presents and then being disappointed and outraged that there are not quite enough (see "Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone") Vs being joyful at all the wonderful things those who loved you gave you

or, for that matter, between simply enjoying one's presents Vs laughing at others who received less
