Last night Dominique and I needed to eat food.  Because I could spend no more than $20 I decided to forego the much-loved atmosphere of Publix and stop instead at the dilapidated Kroger on Ponce.

First on deck was the produce section, where I found apples were too expensive and therefore opted for the less fulfilling bananas.  I was done.  ( Read more... )

i am jealous of the fact that you have a kroger AND a publix near you....all i have here in statesboro is a wal-mart(antichrist) and a bilo...and some store called harvey's.

So I gave this talk on globalization in my theology class monday, and this chick raises her hand at the end "yeah well these women from Bangladesh came to my school and told us to continue buying Walmart because it gives them money". I replied with "yes, great, thanks for the comment.."

I haven't ever seen an incidence like this at a grocery store (though I can totally understand the excitement of shopping for food). Two summers ago this genius lit up a cigarette at the gas station across the street from me - yeah that was an interesting little corner.

I envy your bananas - apples have been my staple for at least a month with this host mother. Enjoy the potassium!
