48. It actually helps to not think of the time-zones and to instead think of a continuous sweep. At 00:00, the midnight that begins the day starts at the international date line. It takes that line 24 hours to sweep all the way around the world. When it reaches the international date line again, 24 hours have passed and the day has finally been started all over the world. At that exact instant, the sweep that ends the day starts, also at the international date line. It's not until it finishes the sweep, 24 hours later, that the day has ended everywhere in the world.
