im not dead yet
Dreamed about a play I'd written (which had showed up in a previous dream) being performed in my middle school gym by my high school classmates. It was going horribly :(
Dreamed something else: started out on a day off at the Dunkin where I sub for the manager, the power was out, got roped into working despite my protests while all the other managers cleaned out an office room that could not possibly exist in that space to use instead of the existing office. Counting gables behind the store, which was a great open field instead of a parking lot. Suddenly, Victorian garden party with a bunch of mariachis. Guy getting awkward responses because of lipstick smeared on him a certain way had a lifesaver. Walking down the lovely hall, sampling chocolates -- ooh, those Kinder things, I love them -- Mother, I want a mess of European candy for my birthday, even if it would kill my diet.
Had another vivid dream the next night, though I don't recall it, and also the night thereafter, about sneaking along high desert cliffs knocking down sentinel statues, then descending to explore an oasis well. Also there was a hotel involved somehow, set up at an old school of mine.
Yet another vivid dream, or two: first, I was privileged to preview Homestuck's EoA flash that's to drop next week, a beautifully animated affair in the sunny and elegant Land of Arches and Cobblestones; it was very Kanaya/Jade flavored and had nothing at all to do with current plot threads. Second, my brain punished me for skipping out on work all weekend with a Dunkin dream, wherein two of our four registers died in the middle of shift change on a busy Sunday morning and half the crew kept disappearing in the back of the store.
Dreamed last night of some sort of Facebook-type RPG that was vaguely Homestuck-inspired and bore a resemblance to Heroes of Neverwinter. Most clearly I recall dark chambers with sumptuous rooms coming off them. I was a Disciple-ish ranger wielding an e�utioner's bow, and had a climactic battle with Dualscar in a portlike cavern; moving to high ground to get a better shot at him, he kept falling.
Then a dream that was like A Game of Thrones (with which I have no experience) in a beaver dam the next night.
A solid streak from Friday through Tuesday. That's unusual these days.
Nearly a week later: a beautiful prince, androgynous and reincarnated, thinking he found his reborn lover in Jeremiah Gottwald (but after, ah, "testing" he wasn't sure, because Jerry didn't remember). A large blue vase covered in oceanlike patterns, with fish and kelp. Searching a small house with far too many bathrooms for just the right essential oils to reawaken Jeremiah's memory.
At work I've been focused on updating and maintaining a list of young adult series. Ideally I'd love to expand it to childrens' and adult series as well, and make it available on our library's (old and poorly designed, but supposedly getting a makeover at the end of the year) website. I'd love to be able to do something like this, but even a list without catalog links and search capabilities, such as this, would be great -- much better than the Word document files of the few lists we have on our site.
The thing is, though, I don't have much experience programming and maintaining this sort of database (didn't get to take such classes in library school due to scheduling conflicts, dammit). Our tech department consists of three people who were kind of shoehorned into the job because they happened to know what they were doing (and while one of them's fond of me and the other's neutral, the third is short-tempered and screamed at me on the phone once for a stupid mistake I made, and I've striven to avoid her ever since), all paraprofessionals, not librarians. Furthermore, the minute I ended up with a full-time librarian position, most likely as a branch manager rather than a nonmanager librarian at one of the big branches, I wouldn't have enough time to devote any of it to such things.
It's frustrating. :/ But for now I guess I'll read up on PHP and MySQL and see if I can't get enough of a sense of this stuff to do it myself.
I've been hanging around mspanonmeme a lot lately, and the corresponding Pesterchum memo is good at keeping me up far past my bedtime (ilu anyway, though, guys). I love this fandom, even with its insane antislash wank masquerading as SJ.
I was trying to get through a full Homestuck reread before the EoA5 flash dropped (not that it was likely considering I still hadn't even hit Hivebent by 12:30 last night), but uh judging from all the hysterics on the meme and the fact that MSPA is down, I slept right through it, welp. And I haven't even trotted over to check out Tumblr yet, hoo boy.
