Defending Iraq

Nov 15, 2004 18:42

The Washington post was quoted, "18 U.S. soldiers and 600 insurgents have been killed in the battle for Fallujah." Although other sources, including the Los Angeles Times, have reported over double those numbers, 38 Americans and 1,200 to 1,600 Iraqi dead. For every American killed, an average 37 Iraqis have been killed ( Read more... )

I was actually having a conversation about the whole label issue with one of my professors recently. It is interesting.
US- Soldiers
Iraqis- Terrorists / Insurgents
Us- Casualty
Iraqi- Murder
US- POWs
Iraqis- Suspected terrorist

"America attacked Iraq for one simple reason. Money."I think that was a huge issue, but there were so many others too. It was also personal and political, mostly money though, but now besides Isreal we have another American friendly arab nation after we're through we them (or that's what this administration hopes anyway). Halliburton is making a lot of money. It's not even just about the oil and weapons, but contracts given to other good ol' boys, friends of the family (literally and figuratively). Money it certainly seems is the main driving force ( ... )

I watch Fox just as much as I watch the Christian channels and listen to conservative radio and read the New York Times. It makes me feel disgusted inside, but at the same time, it's what everyone else believes... and one good point Robert McNamara made in Fog of War is to empathize with your enemy. Understand what makes them tick the way they do.

Life is far worse now for Iraqis than it was under Saddam Hussein. Saddam may be evil, but he did not kill 1,200+ Iraqis in one week, we did... and that's just in one city. It's no wonder they hate us.

no thy enemy to overtake them. I think it's important to also be aware of conservative media as well. People should know all sides so they can make the best informed decision they can.

The "contractors" that were killed in Falluja (the reason that major combat broke out there) were actually mercinaries that have been hired by the US government to basically perform infantry jobs. These "contractors" went in without informing the military of their movement into the region. I find it disturbing that the media is portraying the "attack on contractors" as though they were not armed combatents, which they were. Sorry if this is a tangent, I just find it interesting.

Hey, interesting facts are always welcome... I can't research everything on my own to learn everything that's out there. Thanks for that input, I did not know that bit of info. Amazing how much gets "censored" out.

I am doing a speech (it sounds far more nerdy than it is, ok maybe not) on the use of mercinaries in Iraq by the US Gov. it is truely horrifying.

Speak. Never hold back what you know for fear of being hated. Airika's mother said it best. If people don't hate you, you're doing something wrong. People are against change, and the truth. We censor ourselves every day. We're not allowed to say things because it may be too offensive. Screw that, if it's the truth, then people should hear it. Which is worse, hurting people's feelings, or allowing thousands of civilians to die in silence.
