Man, when people say "oh it's a phase" it pisses me off so much. My mom tried that approach with me for a long time and I'm just like "uh, it doesn't work that way." Yes, some people might be attracted to a member of the same sex and then be attracted to a member of the opposite sex, but it doesn't mean it was a phase. It means they're bisexual, or pansexual, or whatever.
FFS. D: I'm sorry your brother has to put up with that shit in his own home. Good for him that it sounds like he kept his cool and stuck to his guns.
Seriously. We get a slew of teen suicides, a lot relating to bullying queer teens, and people still think having "come to Jesus" talks about how being gay is a sin is okay or helpful?
P.S. You're awesome for being so supportive. I know you wouldn't be any different, but still.. It's so important to have accepting friends and family around when you come out. They should know how much that means. <3
I hadn't heard that he had come out. Good for him! For what it's worth, tell him that those crazy friends of yours he's met a few times support him 100%. XD
Also, as to the "it's a phase" thing, I think this sums it up:
I honestly hate people like that. I wonder what he'd say about my little brother. At the beginning of his life he was my little sister. He has only been into women and is currently with a sweetheart of a girl. No matter what, Kyle's my brother, my flesh and blood and I will love him no matter what.
Always remember: when they quote the bible, they only quote the OLD Testament, not the New. Why? Because Jesus says "Love one another as I have loved you", "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone", and "Whatsoever you do to the least of my people, that you do unto me". None of that sits well when you want to give somebody a reason for why they're wrong, so they immediately jump back to the times where everything is a sin.
My question for anybody who wants to spout the archaic stuff is "If you believe in Jesus, and are Christian in some way, shape, or form, why not listen to what he said instead of what the people before him said?"
Your brother deserves a medal for sitting through it. :)
