We Love Everyone In This Shatterdome

Sooooo... hi, LiveJournal. Looks like I last posted here two years ago. I want to assure friends here that I do still read everything posted to (the slowly dwindling active fraction) of my friends' list. But I'm afraid I just don't really live here anymore ( Read more... )

The indiegogo actually raised almost $4000.

Well yeah, but that was fund-raising pre-sales of badges and swag mostly (plus a few donations). I'd count that separately from "seed money".

Oh, I read it as being the amount of money we raised in our fundraising campaign.

I didn't follow your work on this con all that closely (also, Pacific Rim is one of the zillion movies I haven't seen in the past 3+ years), but it's been fun to see it come together so well from afar. (I've been moderately involved in our campus anime/gaming con as the club's faculty sponsor for the past few years, so I've had a vivid view of the challenges involved.) Congratulations! (And I'm still boggling at your luck on the last minute surprise guest ( ... )

He doesn't write about stuff on tumblr, either.

Tumblr is a genuinely terrible platform for conversations. It may be even worse than twitter.

I am super-impressed that y'all made it happen and it seems like it went really well! Plus I did actually watch the damn movie finally, so now I get why you were so excited to run a con about it. ;)
Well done!

The best part was everyone who came being so excited to be there and seeing all the posts afterward with people saying how much fun they had and how the movie literally saved their lives and the con was so important to them. And watching the movie with everyone and having "Today we are cancellin' the apocalypse!" shouted by 50+ people.

AUGH I LOVE EVERYONE IN THIS SHATTERDOME

Ahh, akiko's comment about some clearly famous person I've never heard of dropping by makes more sense now.

If you want more LJ content, I think neither of you is on my "kids" filter. In the past I think you didn't want to be because when they were infants it was all about sleep and excrement, but if you'd like to opt-in now, the entries are slightly more exciting and include things like my sharing my joy of sharing my 50-in-1 radio shack electronics kit with my daughter.

Congrats on running a Con! Planning anything for that many people takes work. One of these days I'm going to have to see the movie. We finally set up the living room for watching movies a week or two ago in preparation for seeing the latest X-men installment.

Well, the issue is not that I'm starved for friendly content on the internet (good heavens, far from it), but that of missing the solid conversational community that existed back when probably a solid majority of my friends were all active on LJ. That aside, you're welcome to add me if you like. I'm sure it's true that (for someone not related or looking for general parenting experiences anyway) they're a lot more generally interesting now than when you started the filter! :)

And thanks!
