Y-Yeah, I guess. But still... Thanks anyway. And you make good tea.

Haha, it's okay. In some aspects all of you lied to me.

Ah, thanks! Good to hear.

So at least I'm not the only one. And it was to protect you, you know.

And I wasn't nearly as cute of a kid as you were!

Yeah I know... I was kinda too smart for my own good though.

Not true, you were totally cute.

Too smart for your own good, eh? Hey, we were complete strangers in a strange place. Of course you'd get suspicious.

Ha! No way. I was small and sickly. Sickly isn't cute.

It's... kinda part of the reason I was abandoned in the first place. Too bright and not physically fit.

Heh, right, of course. But you guys are more like my family than anything else.

What, seriously? I know it happens, but I think people like that are horrible.

... aww, thanks! I'm really glad to hear that, even though you certainly should have grown up in a nice family.

I can't say I blame them, though... A child who's sick and can't work is just another mouth to feed. My parents were just desperate.

Heh, I grew up nice enough after Yokuhi brought me back to the Twelve Kingdoms. No worries.

Still... it's horrible that kind of thing has to happen.

Hah, I'm glad to hear that.

Yeah... it is. I wasn't the only kid to be abandoned back then, I'm sure. En use to be like that too before Shouryuu became king.

Kirin normally always live a luxurious life from the day they're bonr. It's just the odd ones like me who end up not.

As I said, I know it happens. There are stories of children abandoned or killed in my world...

He must be a good king.

Really? Do you want to tell me more about that?

Oh, that's right... You come from a time in Hourai when it's just as bad, right?

Yeah, I guess he isn't so bad. For a king.

Huh? Uh... sure. Well, how it normally goes is that there's only one kirin at a time born in on the island in the center of the world, called the Yellow Sea. Most of it is dangerous youma infested wilderness but then there's Mt. Hou, a sort of paradise where the oracles live and where the Shashinboku, that's the tree that bears the eggfruit of a kirin, is. The kirin is born in its true form and becomes the lord of Mt. Hou. Most of our earlier life is spent in true form out in the wilderness. That's where we tame our youma to become shirei and learn how to take a human form. Eventually we enter the care of oracles and they treat us like royalty. All the food you want, sleep whenever you want, free to roam, etc. It's great ( ... )

Well, maybe not just as bad. But bad enough, I suppose.
