CHARACTER INFORMATION-
Canon Character and Series: Kaname Takasato/Taiki/Kouri // The Twelve Kingdoms
In-Game Name: Kaname Takasato/Taiki
Age: 11
Gender: Male
Position & Ship: Amestris, Passenger.
Appearance: Taiki has two very distinct 'looks', so I'm going to split this into two sections.
Human: Taiki's Human form is that of a ten year old boy. He's rather short for his age, barely 4'2", and very slight. His pale skin is flawless and his eyes, large and expressive, are grey in hue. His hair, which he wears long, is somewhere between being deep silver and black, giving it a dark, steely tone. 'Slate' would be a fairly apt description of it. In terms of clothing, Taiki usually wears long robe-like top garments and loose trousers beneath. His soft slipper-like shoes give him a rather quiet walk. All in all, he has a fairly regal appearance, despite his tender age.
Kirin: In his Kirin form, he is small compared to others of his species due to being a 'heina' or immature Kirin. He is also a 'Koki', or rare black example of his kind. He is around around the size of a small pony, but given the slight and delicate build associated with his species, he more closely resembles a deer. His eyes remain similarly large and emotive, and exactly the same colour as in his human shape. His fur is black and dappled with silver spots and his mane, which appears silky and with extremely light strands, is silver-grey. His hooves are cloven and his ankles generously feathered. His tail is less like that of a horse than one would expect. It is long, but fuller from around half way to the end with hair similar to that of his mane flowing from it. Both, rather than being simply hair-like, are lighter and more flowing, and ripple like a flame.
By far the most striking feature of the Kirin is the horn in the centre of his forehead. Rather than being spiralled like that of a unicorn, it is more easily compared to a deer's antler, but singular, and is pearl-white. His ears are also far more cervine than equine.
Personality: Taiki is timid, extremely innocent and very, very sweet. He's thoughtful, considerate and strives to be as polite and helpful as possible, even going as far as to offer things like shared mealtimes to the servants that he used to have, regardless of the absurdity of it. While he is not in the habit of lying, he will say he understands something when he doesn't, if he believes that asking the person to explain something for a second or third time will annoy them or even offend them. On that note, he is rather naive, having lived a fairly sheltered life. There's a lot he doesn't know about the world, and as such, he will be unsure of his own status (since he will be viewed as a Demihuman) or anything political.
Sweet as he is, he is fairly prone to tears if he believes that he has offended or disappointed somebody. He will try and bottle it up, but sometimes, in the event of something getting to be too much for him, he will give in to the tears which often makes the guilt worse. Even so, he has an uncommon bravery and loyalty, especially when it comes to those he cares about. Rather than let the people he loves get hurt, he can and will throw himself into dangerous situations to help them. In that respect, he is impulsive, though it contrasts starkly with his usual shy, reserved demeanour.
It is in his very nature to be caring and kind and tends against acting in any other way. Kirins are creatures of virtue above all else and absolutely abhor violence, so people fighting around him makes him extremely nervous. Also, he is, first and foremost, a child. He is still quite immature and does act quite childishly despite trying to do the best he can in any given situation. He also tends to act on his emotions rather than what would be logical for the situation.
Abilities/Weapons: Taiki's main, major ability is the one that allows him to transform from a Kirin to a human and back again. When this happens, the air around him shimmers and the transition is smooth and rather swift, happening in the blink of an eye. While in his Kirin form, he retains the ability to speak, but his lips don't move when he does, the sound instead resonating in the air around him. Note: At the time of his arrival in the game, he cannot yet transform.
It is important to remember that, while Taiki looks human most of the time, he is first and foremost an animal, even if he wears the guise of a person. Due to this, he has beast-like senses and the ability to talk to animals. He can also purify water and nullify poisonous substances and, due to being a Kirin (and only while in that form), he can run extremely quickly and exhibits uncommon grace and agility while doing so.
As well as this, he can recognise people who are using a shape not natural for them. That isn't to say that he can divine what they are, but he knows when somebody is supposed to look like something else, though that said, he will not bring it up due to being in a similar position. As can be expected of a magical creature, he can also feel 'magic' quite easily, that is to say chakra/reiatsu/whatever and see demons/ghosts/other things not visible to humans, or at least normal ones.
Since he cannot and will never be able to fight by himself for reasons outlined in the 'Weaknesses' section, he and other Kirins have the innate ability to pacify monsters and demons to Summon in battle to fight on their behalf. These creatures are known as 'Shirei'. There are two kinds of Shirei and they are 'Nyokai' or 'Youma'. A Kirin is born ten months after his or her Nyokai, and they act as a protector, educator and mother figure until the Kirin is old enough to give them orders. A Youma is a demon beast or monster which has been subjugated in the traditional way by a Kirin. The method of doing this looks essentially like a glorified staring match, though it is, in reality, a battle of wills. Eventually, one will win. If the Youma wins, the Kirin must flee or die. If the Kirin wins, the Youma will yield its name and become the Kirin's Shirei, agreeing to serve it until its death, upon which the Shirei will be entitled to eat the body of the Kirin and absorb its power. While in the service of their master, Shirei will always follow orders and cannot disobey them.
Taiki has one of each kind and they are are;
Sanshi: Sanshi is the closest 'person' to Taiki and his is Nyokai. Her form is that of a Chimera, as are all nyokai, and she appears to be an extremely pale woman from the waist up, a leopard from the waist down (in the style of a centaur) and having a lizard-like tail. Her hair is long and white and her eyes are large, round and green. She tends to attack enemies with her sharp claws (both on her human hands and feline paws) or teeth and uses her agility to get one over on her opponent.
Gouran: Gouran is Taiki's second Shirei. He is the first and only beast that Taiki has managed to tame and his particular species is that of a 'Toutesu'. Gouran can shape-shift into various animals to best protect his master. That said, Gouran tends to stick in the shape of a Shiba Inu dog, small and brown with white paws, when summoned not to fight, on account of the more preferable battle-form of a large, black-furred, red-eyed wolf frightening his master.
Both are always 'veiled' and invisible unless called upon.
How well can your character hack?: He can't!
Weaknesses: Taiki's weaknesses are many. Firstly, there are the personality based ones outlined in the relevant section. He simply hates disappointing anybody and will allow this to get to him, even if he tries to hide it. He is also emotional, especially when the plight of animals or weaker, oppressed people is involved. As said earlier, he fears conflict and violence terribly, too.
His second, though kind of unimportant weakness, is his inability to bow to anybody. He can bow his head politely, but he can't perform a full head-to-the-floor bow to anybody other than the person he is destined to serve. He simply can't do it. There is no way he can bow before somebody and even physical attempts to make him do it will not grant him the ability.
His horn also presents something of a weakness. If his horn is bound, it prevents him switching between his forms. This can be done either literally in Kirin form, or figuratively with his forehead in his human one. Incidentally, he dislikes his forehead being touched and will avoid it if possible.
In the vein of his ability to feel the magical fields of those around him, be they human, demihuman or monster, those with extremely negative energy will frighten him immensely.
Taiki's biggest and most obvious weakness is his all-out aversion to blood. Even the sight or scent of it renders him entirely immobile, paralysing him completely. He is overcome by nausea when exposed to it and all of his muscles and nerves seem to seize up and deaden. His mind fogs and his thought processes are flooded by the need and urge to get away from the blood as soon as possible. If he is splashed with it, he will fall unconscious almost immediately and, unless washed clean of it, will remain that way indefinitely.
Concerning blood, summoning can also be a dangerous source of this weakness. Although he is unable to fight himself, as mentioned, and can summon Sanshi or Gouran to do it for him, they will almost invariable draw blood from an opponent if given the chance. After a battle, he can't get close to either of his Shirei due to this and must wait until they are unsullied and purified to do so.
Meat as a foodstuff is poisonous to him and he is entirely vegetarian due to this.
Sanshi and Gouran also have weaknesses. Theirs are simple, but serious. Firstly, both lack the ability to disobey Taiki's orders, to the point where they will be unable to move if ordered not to, no matter how dangerous the situation. They are also un-armoured and besides their natural arsenal of weapons (teeth, claws) are unarmed. As such, while they can savagely attack an opponent, it will be in an animal-like way and they can be easily injured, leading to Taiki's blood-weakness being activated.
Taiki's own low-key and largely unactivated power (this due to his age and immaturity) also puts something of a damper on their own. They are still able to protect him, but due to his limiters, they aren't as powerful as they could otherwise be.
History: Taiki was due to be born on an Island off the 'coast' of Erealia known as Hohzan, a place full of craggy, maze-like rocks, beautiful rivers and pools, rolling grassland and extremely pretty buildings there for the exclusive purpose of housing Kirins and the servants that are there to care for them. Ten months before his birth, from a fruit hanging on the roots of a great tree known as a Sati-tree, a chimera was born. She emerged from the Eggfruit as all Nyokai do and wanted nothing more than to get to the ground above to see what she had been born solely to protect. The only word that occupied her thoughts was 'Taiki'.
A woman, a high priestess, met her there and gave her a name -- Sanshi. With her guidance, Sanshi was taken upwards and out of the cave to see the Sati-tree and its precious bounty with her own eyes. Overjoyed at seeing the Eggfruit that held Taiki, Sanshi galloped towards it, taking the tiny thing into her hands as it hung from the branches of that pearl-white tree and holding it gently to her face.
From then, she knew that she would watch over his Eggfruit until he was born and continue once he was. It was her job, her purpose in life to suckle the baby Kirin, to teach him the ways of the world and protect him from all that may hurt him in those tender years of his life. The priestesses, also know as 'Oracles', would cover his more material care, but the motherly duties would fall to her and she could barely wait.
Unfortunately, it was not to be. On a fateful day, barely a month into his Eggfruit's growth, a vicious storm known as a Shoku ripped through the mountain. The Sati-tree, usually unmoving even in the strongest of gales, bent and the branches whipped back and forth, tugged and abused by the storm. To Sanshi's horror, the wind took Taiki's eggfruit with it.
The High Priestess promised that they would find Taiki, wherever he'd ended up, and return him to the care of Sanshi no matter what. Sanshi, while they searched, walked the island and those close to it looking for her charge. Even when her four paws throbbed with the strain of carrying her she didn't stop and, after coming back for a short rest and making to leave ten years after his disappearance, one of the Oracles came to her with the sentence she'd been waiting for hear; "We've found him."
Using a magical artefact with the ability to open portals, one of the other Kirins, a female, had been called back to Hohzan to help. Another of them, a male, had found him living in Erealia, with a family. It was a miserable life. Since being taken by the Shoku, he had been 'implanted' in the belly of a human woman and born as her son. He was given the name 'Kaname Takasato' and had always been a sensitive boy. He had a fairly absent father, a caring mother, a kid brother and a particularly mean grandmother who always sensed there was something wrong with him. She, when those at Hohzan mounted their rescue, had made him stand outside in the snow as punishment for something he hadn't done.
He stood there, his fingers and feet horribly numb from the biting cold. At least, he stood there until he felt a warm breeze, like that of summer. Then, from behind the shed at the bottom of the garden, he saw a pale arm beckoning to him. He couldn't help but wonder how somebody could fit into the tiny gap between the wall and the fence, but he went over to investigate anyway. As he got close, he took the hand in his own, feeling reassured by it.
It was then that Taiki's life changed forever.
He ended up in a strange place, surrounded by joyful faces. He was confused, but he sought protection from the owner of the arm that had pulled him through - Sanshi. Despite the fact that she looked like a monster, he was drawn to her and looked to her before answering anybody else's questions. The bond between a Nyokai and a Kirin is very strong and even though he'd never met her before, he knew that he could rely on her.
He had returned home. He was confused by the Oracles waiting on him, but grew to accept it. He learned about the world, and he played happily there, but remained unsure of quite what a Kirin was, aside from the fact that he was apparently one. In time, he stopped believing that he was what they said. The Oracles described them as being like an animal, like a horse or deer, and that they had the ability to change form. That he didn't know how to shift made him doubt whether he really was one. In time, the High Priestess brought one of the other eleven Kirins, a different one to the other two he'd heard about, to teach him the ways of his species.
It was a disaster. He learned nothing and felt like more of a failure -- the processes simply couldn't be explained. He was told that he couldn't simply be taught how to change, just as somebody couldn't describe how they raised their arm, and that he should be able to so anyway. It was a painful let down and he started feeling like he'd let everybody on Hohzan down, too. He'd finally returned, and they'd been overjoyed, but he couldn't be what they wanted, what he was supposed to be able to do. Even so, he befriended the colder Kirin and was taught how to pacify animals. It didn't go very well either, so he decided that he would leave the Island to gain some life experience.
Kirins are born with one purpose in mind - to serve a particular individual. They are said to be fair and virtuous people, with a regal air. When the Kirin meets them, they are said to receive a 'revelation' and from there, they are bound together for life. With the intention of discovering who he truly was, how to change and to find this person, Taiki left the Island to search.
On his journey, he saved a group of people he briefly travelled with from a dangerous Toutesu youma by subjugating it and making it his servant. It was a long and dangerous process, but in the end he made it kneel to him -- something believed to be impossible. He ascertained that its name was Gouran and from then, he had two Shirei summons to protect him. Somewhere along his journey, he met a Unicorn -- a member of a species that is similar to his own. After their meeting, he got himself a Difference Engine so that when she found somewhere safe to travel, he would be able to join her.
