"Don't argue with me." Gokudera's voice was sharp as tried to put a tight rein on his temper, stomping through the undergrowth angrily with one hand clamped tightly around Yamamoto's arm.
"Haha, I'm sorry, Hayato." Yamamoto laughed a little.
"I don't need that. What I do need is for you to goddamn shut up and listen long and hard enough so you don't get yourself killed out there." Gokudera's voice was still laced with anger, but tightly modulated as he was very aware that the enemy was out there and ready to attack them once they were located.
The way that Yamamoto had accidentally taken a wrong turn earlier and bumbled into their adversary's camp had put the entire mission at risk. Although Gokudera had made a timely appearance, knocking down their leader from the side opposite to Yamamoto and dispatching him with a well placed bullet which had allowed Yamamoto to take the advantage of surprise and slice down those surrounding him, there were still a significant number of their enemies around, ready to shoot the minute they spotted even a hair of them. Talking would only make their adversaries' jobs easier.
"I'm all ears then, Hayato."
Gokudera glanced backward and shot him a dark glare. No, being all just ears would be no good. But what was he thinking, anyway? He knew Yamamoto wasn't meaning it literally. Gokudera shook his head to clear it of such useless thoughts.
"Come on." Gokudera made his way further through the undergrowth, ducking under trailing branches and squeezing between trunks, not aware he was still gripping Yamamoto's wrist tightly in his hand. Although it kind of hurt, Yamamoto liked it, it was a nice kind of pain, especially if it came from Gokudera. That thin supple hand grasping his wrist...
Now was neither the time nor the place.
Suddenly, Yamamoto frowned. Something felt very wrong. His instincts had never failed him in this.
With the wrist still in Gokudera's hand, Yamamoto twisted his arm, feeling the burn as his skin twisted in Gokudera's grasp, until he had hold of Gokudera's own wrist and yanked him backwards powerfully. Gokudera slammed into Yamamoto and they fell backwards onto the ground heavily as a blast of warmth shot overhead where they both were just seconds before.
Yamamoto blinked, trying to clear his head from the impact of their hard combined drop, as Gokudera, lying on top of him, groped in one of the pockets of his somewhat dusty suit. Producing bombs Yamamoto had not seen in along time, Gokudera smiled impishly as he lit the bombs deftly and tossed them lazily (yet extremely accurately and powerfully) in the direction the scorching shot had come from. The resulting blast created a significantly stronger blast of warm, dusty wind to rush towards them. Gokudera appeared to have upgraded his artillery.
They could relax for a while now. Although there doubtless still others out there searching for any sign of them, they had dealt with the immediate danger they had been trying to avoid, and no doubt eliminated the weapon they had been sent to deal with. The rest they could deal with... in just a little while.
It seemed Yamamoto and Gokudera had just realised the significance of their lying on top of each other, and the close encounter left both their hearts hammering as adrenalin still rushed in their veins. Neither had ever felt so glad to be alive as they crushed their bodies to each other.
