To: T'Lan,
I know this is weird, but I'm back to life. Mind if I drop by to visit you? I might bring one of my sons if that's okay?

Lt. George Kirk, USS Enterprise (formerly Kelvin)

To: Jim kirktastic
Hey kiddo. What say we get together, tear up the town? Haven't seen you a lot recently. Go visit an old shipmate of mine?

Dad

"Space is good. Do you have a dedicated bed yet?" George questioned curiously. "Or is there just a dedicated wing for the obnoxious Kirk-family. Is it right near the transport stations?"

"We're wondering, well, at least I was wondering if you'd be the officiant. It looks like we're going to get married while on the Enterprise. Starfleet law does follow old Earth maritime Terran law that Captains are allowed to perform marriages."

"IDIC kiddo, IDIC," George chuckled. "Or if you prefer, There are more things in heaven and earth, Jim, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy." He pulled up in front of the house that was registered as T'Lan's residence. "Let's do this."

"IDIC?" Jim muttered to himself, getting out of the car and following his father. If George started embarrassing him, he was out of there and stealing the car.

"Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations," George responded, and walked up to knock on the door.

T'Lan opened the door and observed them both. "If this is trickery, I must commend you on the effort you have put into the detail."

"Honey, this is my natural hotness," George smiled at her. "Greetings T'Lan. I trust you are fairing well?" He bowed politely.

"I would suggest a being capable of shifting his form. However, as you have come from the Enterprise, I suspect they had the good sense to check that possibility." She turned her gaze in the direction of the man she recognized only from the press accounts. "Unless the abilities of Doctor McCoy have been greatly exaggerated."

She was a pretty one, this T'Lan. Jim gave her a full up-and-down glance while she was talking to George, trying to get a feel for her. This was someone who, evidently, hadn't liked his mother, and had been his father's friend. So far, he hadn't found a full-blooded Vulcan (who was sane, Sybok definitely didn't count) that he could have considered someone he would develop a friendship with - too strict, too unemotional for him. So if his dad called T'Lan a friend, he was definitely curious.

"No, trust me, anything you've heard about how amazing B--" He flipped it on his tongue, "McCoy is, it's probably true." There was a small flush of pride in him for Bones.

T'Lan examined him thoughtfully. Definitely his father's son and wore his emotions on his cheeks.

"In that case, in the absence of the possible logical explanations, we must accept the impossible." She raised her hand in the standard greeting of her people. "Welcome to my home, Captain Kirk. I am pleased to see you restored to life, George."

She lowered her hand to allow them room to enter.

"It's good to be back to life," George admitted as he entered the house, looking around it curiously. It was as he had suspected. Everything was arrayed neatly, logically. But logically it was also quite comfortable and tasteful as well. "Your home is quite beautiful. I was pleased to find you were not caught on Vulcan when it imploded and sorrowed to find that the tragedy had befallen your home. We grieve with thee for Vulcan."

T'Lan folded her hands neatly behind her back. "We grieve our losses, but will continue to rebuild. In that way, the culture represented by those lost will not be subject to the same. I am pleased Starfleet was able to prevent your planet from the same fate."

"Not just Starfleet, but Jim here did a good portion of it," George grinned proudly. "He lead his crew to defeat the war criminal known as Nero himself and then their capture later." George took a seat in a very comfortable looking ergonomic chair. "And your rebuilding is awesome. I did a Habitat project house before the trial started up."

Jim briefly gave his father tat look when George started talking about him and Nero. While he liked the idea of meeting one of his father's old friends, someone who had really served on the ship that had changed his life (for the first time), he didn't really, really didn't want to discuss that, specially not with the trial going on.

Equally, he knew George had absolutely no idea just how much Jim grieved for Vulcan. He turned his hand over, the tattoo turned from sight, and the pang of shared pain that Prime had put into his heart that day on Delta Vega was forced down.

Jim sat down - why the hell did Vulcans believe everything should have a ridiculously straight back? - and looked back to T'Lan. "The progress on the planet has been amazing so far. I knew it had come far from the reports but I gotta admit I was shocked."

"I have been told in the past that Vulcans are very stubborn," T'Lan remarked dryly. "Though I am not sure I agree with such assertions, I suspect those who share that belief would not be shocked at our determination to rebuild our society."

"Vulcan's aren't stubborn, and humans aren't emotional," George chuckled. "Always a humorist. You haven't changed a bit. Have the elders convinced you to mate for the good of the species yet?"

"I have not had the opportunity to mention lately that your species is entirely too fascinated by the subject of mating." T'Lan glanced pointedly at them both, letting them know they were both included in that generalization. "As to your inquiry, I will be meeting with candidates next week."
