Yes, I will be using this icon (which is Billy from the Young Avengers run) for all WandaVision content. Which icon is better? None. There is no better icon.
WandaVision episode 7
What makes a good mystery IMHO? Several factors but on top of the usual twists and turns and red herrings, a good mystery allows you to solve it using the clues deliberately left there by the author. That’s why the modern philosophy of turning everything into the “mystery box” (thanks JJ!) is such a big blow to the mystery genre. Abandon growth, abandon clues, just make is unexpected.
So what did WandaVision do? They presented you with a mystery, they gave you clues, and then - ironically, in a twist I honestly did not see coming! - they followed up these clues with a solution that was faithful to these clues! The clues as obvious to see as the tip of my own nose. Turns out that the biggest twist of the show was the twist that everyone saw coming but dismissed it, because it would be too obvious!
Well, no, Real Pietro, ironically, I did not.
SO IT TURNS OUT IT WAS AGATHA ALL ALONG!
I know, right!?
Just like everyone said it would. Just like everyone dismissed it would be. Maybe the real twist was the friends we made along the way. Who cares, it this house we stan Agatha Harkness! What a reveal and what a song! A true earworm! It replaced ‘WandaVision WanWandaVision’ as my favourite bopper from the show, it was just THAT good. So yes, it was Agatha all along, except that I believe we’ll get one more reveal, because after all, in the comicbooks, as we know, she worked with Mephisto (and Pandemonium) and there’s also the Nightmare imagery to consider. Maybe a blend of these two?
What does Agatha want? I still believe she wants the kids, the first two episodes were all ‘for the children’ etc and then after the twins arrived we kind of forgot about it. I didn’t. I think getting her hands on Billy and Tommy is her ultimate goal.
Getting her hands on. Get it? Get it? Do you get it?!
In other news, Monica suffers from terminal stupidity. Literally every single decision she made so far is a stupidass decision that serves only one goal - to give her powers. She’s been holding that idiot ball since episode 4 and refuses to share it. Touching the hex? Sure. Running into the hex right after jumping out of the car that was suppose to get her into the hex? Right. Running straight towards a very unstable woman with reality-altering powers without spending even a single moment to formulate a plan? On it. Anyway, now that she has the powers hopefully the plot-induced dumbness will leave her.
Speaking on plot-induced dumbness... so Hayward is just one trip into the hex away from tying Wanda to the railroad tracks while twirling his moustache. I said it before but why is a show all about tropes following an old, cliche and very dumb trope of Designated Villain? And before you say “well because it’s a trope” yes, but context matters. Tropes inside the hex make sense, outside of it, it’s just bad writing. Still hoping there’s more to this (moooooojoooooo?) otherwise, it’s just an overused trope written by people who just have no interest in making anything outside the hex interesting.
Other stuff:
- So the engineer the internet has spent the last two weeks trying to figure out who they are turns out to be... a nobody. Some say there’s still a possibility she’s a Skrull or that maybe the engineer isn’t her at all and will be introduced later. Maybe. Perhaps. If it’s not Justin Hammer I’m not interested
- The opening credits were all about Wanda, by herself. Even the Vision part showed up only at the last possible second
- I’m guessing Monica will go by Spectrum since she got that cool spectrum-vision after getting into the hex
- who’s the missing kid on the milk carton? ATJ Pietro, possibly?
- and what is fake Pietro up to? He’s been controlled by Agatha but is he still? Is he an innocent bystander? Ralph? FoxPietro (no)? MEPHISTO?
- OMG NEXUS AD!!! Multiverse, here we come!
- Vision and Darcy’s little adventure was ok but ultimately pointless and not all that funny. Tho Darcy thinking Vision is hitting on her was great
- Yes but what did Agatha do to Billy and Tommy!?
