There were bigger dives in Storm Lake, with better music and cheaper booze. Some attracted construction workers, others engineers, still others visiting suits from Washington and Moscow and Beijing. The Shipyard bar was the favorite of the majority of cadets.

Natalie was in Toronto. And Toronto was weird, and Brazil was weird, and Jim was generally not weird so he was getting a call.

By the time he'd gotten home, the blood on Jim's face was dry but everything ached. So, his phone going off only made him scowl. Still, he picked it up and put it to his ear, wincing at that.

"Hello?" He sounded nasally and slightly irritated with the world.

"There are no good times." How melodramatic. But, he coughed and groaned, holding the phone away from him before coming back. "It's fine. I wasn't asleep or anything."
