Metallica Concert Report:
Cow Palace, San Francisco, CA
Monday, March 8, 2004

I drove 80 miles to see Metallica for one night!!!! Take that, posers!!!

Anyways, the drive to SF was great, I left around 4PM to beat traffic, and even though I arrived at the Cow Palace somewhere around 6:50, I didn't even get within 2 blocks of the arena until almost 8 PM, The streetlight only let 6 cars turn left at a time, and the Parking Lot was full sometime around 6PM. Cops didn't even show up to regulate traffic until almost 8 PM. So yes, I missed Godsmack. Anyways, a cop told me to park on the street, and I found an OK spot about 2 blocks from a McDonald's. At the arena, I saw 2 guys from my Physics class who I never talked to, but also wear Hard Rock shirts. Cool shit!

The Cow Palace is SMALL. It's an all-GA show cuz you can't fit all 16,000 people in the seats, so it's easier to just let everyone sit where they want. I chose a spot on the floor, and I paid for it. This tour is a Stage in the Round, which means the audience surrounds the stage. So basically, it's the Load tour stage but smashed down and only 3 feet off the ground. So yeah, I was so close I could see their faces, and their smiles, since we were so fucking loud for such a small venue. But sadly, I only saw one band member at a time, cuz when they ran away to another corner, I couldn't see them anymore :( .

Highlights:
-James thought we weren't loud enough, so he yelled "Fuck you!" at us and flipped us off. Well, it worked: everytime James came back after that, every hand shot into the air and we started screaming.
-It was so hot the boys toweled off every other song, and James lost his shirt before "St. Anger". It was so hot, I was drenched in sweat (my jeans didn't help), and my hair was sopping wet. It took 5 uses of shampoo to get the smell of cigarette smoke out of it.
-They pushed the drumkit around the stage so that we'd all get a chance to see kickass drumming up close, and Lars played for us during the final set, which was "One" up to the very end.
-Since we're the SF crowd, we got "Dyers Eve" and "Holier Than Thou", songs that had official debuts early in the tour.
-Rob did his twirl during "Seek and Destroy", and did some crab-ninja moves for us during "St. Anger".
-The pyro for "One" was fucking LOUD!!!
