Jim's Birthday!!!! I wish I got a Birthday Concert! But if I did, nothing would top it, so I would pray for a heart attack to claim my life in the parking lot.
Once again, we missed Godsmack. We were heading out from Jim's place in Rancho Cordova, and accidentally took I-80 Business to get to Arco, After hitting Roseville, Jim called his friend and found out that Arco is by the Fry's at Northgate, and 80 Business is not the way to go. It's worth noting that Jim drove back up at around 4PM that day, and it would have been more efficient/easy if he just grabbed me on the way and we went straight there, but no worries.
Anyways, we did arrive in time to catch Godsmack's outro jam, "Whatever", and "I Stand Alone". Sully said he wanted us to scream so loud, "James Fucking Hetfield slips in the shower", and I was happy to oblige. They are an awesome live band, and have a great sound.
From my chair on the lower level, I saw a Stage-in-the-Round the way it was meant to be seen: from a distance. From my vantage point, I could see 90% of the stage, and watch them move around. Also, I didn't have to crane my neck to see the damn monitors. It was another great show, but it wasn't as hot, maybe cuz it was a bigger arena and I had a chair. Oh yeah, parking was a lot easier, since Arco is used to 16,000+ crowds.
Highlights:
-"One" pyros are still loud, and Jim was plugging his ears during the intro, which means it was TOO FUCKING LOUD. Jim thinks they detonated M-1000's or something like that.
-They didn't push Lars around, Jim noticed that the whole stage rotated! That was a nice trick, but I don't remember seeing it spin.
-They played "I Disappear", the song they were supposed to play waaaaay back in 2000's Sanitarium, but James's bad back negated that possiblity.
-Kirk did his "Bellz" solo facing our side!!!!!! HOT GUITAR SOLO!!!!
