As it turned out, being a woman--a woman that moved and sounded like his older sister--was not the least dignified thing to ever happen to him on the Enterprise.

Roaming free and in his own body in The Four only knew what blinding infinite corridor?

Without his shirt or coat? In the cold?

Definitely the new all-time low.

Fvadta ariennye.

(IF you wanna play with girl!Ayel, or just come say hi, or point and laugh and flee for your puny Fed life, that's cool, too.)

Christine was walking back to her quarters after her shift in Sickbay. It had been a long day, and she wasn't paying as much attention to where she was going as she normally did.

Which was perhaps how she managed to turn a corner and run straight into someone else. Only the other woman's weight - heavier than a human of her size would be - kept Christine from knocking them both to the floor.

"Oh, I'm so sorry!" Christine cried, leaping back. "Are you hurt?" She put out a hand to the woman's arm, both as apology and to steady her, and only then did she realize who she was.

And that she was somehow, mysteriously, out of the brig.

And that she wasn't wearing a shirt.

"Um," Christine said eloquently. "Ayel?"

The very first thing he did with his other arm was tuck it firmly across himself.

Well, no, the very first thing he did was emit a high-pitched noise--NOT a squeak--and stumble backward a bit, mortified.

Goldenhair, from before.

"Does--does everyone on this ship know?" He managed to plaster a pout on Sharra's face, a smoky look entirely unconvincing, considering the heat in his cheeks.

He was probably green to his scalp.

"Know?" Christine's brow furrowed in confusion. Know what? That he was out of the brig? "Well, no one sent me, if that's what you mean."

She smiled reassuringly.

"I think one of my spare uniforms might almost fit you," she offered gently.

It was probably best not to ask too many questions just yet.

"My, uh. Name," he stuttered. She was pretty when she smiled. "And that I'm--like this? But I suppose not."

"Clothes?"

Those would be good. It was chilly in here. Enough to drive him to goosebumps. All over.

He was very careful with the angle of his hand.

He sucked in a breath. "Yes. Clothes. Great. Please?"

He was too off-balance for much more than one word answers right then.

"Oh," she said softly. "Well, I only know because Captain Kirk told me."

He must be freezing. And he was clearly embarrassed about being caught like this. The green blush was almost endearing. Christine put an arm around his back - her back? It was still so confusing - to offer comfort as well as warmth.

"Come on," she said. "My quarters are just down the hall."

A hand! In new places.

He did not twitch. Not when she was gentle and warmer than the surrounding air. Not unpleasant, just unexpected.

"Thank you," he managed after a moment, not leaning in--it would just be awkward--but grateful for the reassurance.

Together, they miraculously made it down the hall and through the door to her quarters without being seen by anyone else.

Christine didn't understand it. Back on her own Enterprise, she had almost never found herself entertaining half-naked genderswitched Vulcaniods in her quarters. And yet here, it seemed to be happening on a more and more regular basis.

Well, everyone needed a hobby, she supposed.

"Here we go," she said, slipping away from Ayel and pulling a spare uniform from her closet. "It'll be a bit short, I'm afraid," she said apologetically as she held it out to him, tilting her head upwards to meet the Romulan's eyes.

As if it weren't short enough on her, without Ayel's extra inches.

"Well--" he shook it out, a little doubtfully. This lady was a bit--more--than Sharra, around the upper chest. And it would be very short. "Thank you."

It seemed to be all of a piece--none of the trick seams that would have gone with the kilt of a Rihan uniform of the same era--so Ayel pulled it on over his head.

And stopped when he heard fabric tearing.

Sharra was a bit modestly figured, but her shoulders were also broader than this garment allowed for, and that left him--her?--sort of spilling out the new neck he'd torn in it.

"I--" Ayel sat, legs just giving way, on the edge of the chair nearest him. "I ruined your dress," he said, now positive that he would never stop blushing. "Sorry."

"Oh, it's all right!" Christine rushed to Ayel's side, hands flying in an attempt to soothe her embarrassment. "It doesn't matter, really. It's just a dress."

She smiled, rubbing her hand reassuringly up and down the other woman's arm. "I'm sorry it didn't fit you. I suppose we should get you out of it again, though," she said. "That doesn't look very comfortable."

The skirt slid up nicely, but the dress didn't want to come up over his ribcage, trapped an arm against his waist.

"I! Uh, it isn't--help?" almost plaintively.

Flashing his palms was acceptable in this case. These were...extenuating circumstances.

"Of - of course!" She was already moving, bending down in front of Ayel, slipping her fingers under the fabric in an attempt to ease it off.

It took a few minutes, Christine's fingers sliding against warm skin as she patiently worked the tight fabric up the Romulan's body. But the dress finally gave, coming free with a sudden last tug that sent Christine stumbling backward a few steps with leftover momentum.

She was a sweet lady with clever fingers who had been nothing but kind to him.

Ayel reached, caught her arm as she stumbled and tried to help pull her upright again.

Which--sort of overbalanced him and pressed their fronts together awkwardly.

That feeling was new.

"Oh! Um. Thank you. For your help."

He didn't quite realize that he still had hold of her elbow.

"I wish I could have helped. I'm afraid we're just back where we started." She was blushing. Ayel was - very close. Christine was a tall woman, but at this angle she had to tilt her head back to meet the Romulan's eyes.

He hadn't let go. He must be waiting, to make sure she wasn't going to fall. She steadied herself, and smiled up at him. "Thank you."

She was flushed pink, deepening to red as she smiled. Oh. Maybe because he still had her arm?

It'd be a shame to let go now. But it would also be...very forward to hang on. He gently let go once he was sure she was alright. Which he established with close visual scrutiny.

Before he could think better of it, he leaned down and closed the last few inches between them, pressed his lips quick against her forehead.

"Welcome," he murmured, grinning into her hair.

"Oh!" She flushed deeper, her lips turning up slightly. "Well -" She stepped back, at a loss. "I'd offer you a robe or something, but - I'm afraid it's in the other universe." She offered an apologetic smile.

"Are you - hungry? Or thirsty?"
