Jim lied when he sent the message to his brother. He'd hate himself for it later, maybe, but it was something he knew he needed to do. He picked up Bones' PADD and pulled it up, typing the message under Bones' name.
Sam,
Up for a drink? Found a quiet place to get some work done. Computer'll tell you.
Leonard
Jim's fingers hesitated, reading it over and over. Would Sam know it wasn't Bones? Leonard felt wrong to type in some ways, but he wasn't sure what Bones would even address himself as to Sam. Finally, he went back and deleted the signature all together.
Sam,
Up for a drink? Found a quiet place to get some work done. Computer'll tell you.
There was so much wrong with what he had in his head, but he was determined. This was something that needed to happen. He needed to be able to really talk about this with Sam. Bones cared for Sam. His brother cared for Bones.
If Jim wanted to be a part of Bones' life, if he wanted Bones to be happy, he had to get this figured out in his head. Little pieces of what Bones had growled, what Spock had calmly said, what Sam had tried to explain and failed... all floating around in a mess.
He hit send on the message. The computer was already hacked, programmed to lie. It would send Sam right to him, when Sam entered the room, would lock the door with his Captain's code. It would automatically reprogram the computer instantly to set it back to correctly locate Bones again.
Jim would not leave this room until they had this figured out. He waited in the small bathroom, listening. Sam would probably turn and leave if he saw Jim waiting for him. He owed it to Bones to figure this mess out in his head...
cuz he loved him.
