With the sentencing over, the Enterprise would soon be leaving Sha'Kwai and returning to its original mission. By this point, Jim was ready for it. He wanted off the planet, his wanderlust getting the better of it. It was the longest stretch of time he had spent in once place minus his years at the Academy - always moving, always traveling, wanting ( Read more... )

Nora was nervous. She was always nervous, truth be told, when she met someone new. New and important, in this case, so she'd made sure to put her hair up and generally not look like a sweaty mess. "Captain?" she said, rather tentatively. If she was going to be working on his ship, it might behoove her to introduce herself and make a good impression.

This... was a face he didn't know. Jim blinked at Nora, and gave a tentative smile. "Hello, can I help you?" He tried to make sure his smile and expression were inviting.

"Um. Hi, I mean..." Work, dammit! she inwardly shouted at her brain cells, and cleared her throat. "I'm Lenora Tovik. I've been assigned to the Enterprise, and I, uh, thought I might introduce myself." She smiled, trying to make it look normal.

The name rang a bell, matched to a profile of newly transferred people to his ship. His smile brightened even more as he offered out his hand. "Nice to meet you, Lt. Tovik. Lenora... a beautiful name. I'm glad you came by."

Nora took the proffered hand and shook it, relaxing a little. "Thank you," she said, her voice rather steadier. "I-I go by Nora." Don't start babbling, Tovik, not now.

"Nora? But why... Lenora's a beautiful name." It was just a part of him, to flirt and compliment and tease people gently when he liked them.

"I've had one too many bad nicknames," Nora replied, her own smile spreading. "My little brother calls me 'Lenburger' when he's feeling playful, so I dropped the beginning at the Academy." She did feel a lot more at ease now.

Lenburger made him laugh, eyes bright. "Come on over here." He gestured with his head, leading her back to the deck and nudging the pitcher of psuedo-lemonade at her. "Trust me, if you had my middle name, you'd know how much I understand."

"Ooh, yeah, I can see that." Nora grinned right back; she knew his middle name, all right. Everyone did, it seemed. She took the indicated pitcher and poured a bit. "Unisex middle names are the worst, though. If I was a boy, I'd've been Leonard Bailey Tovik instead of Lenora."

That made him laugh again. "Hey, you should happen to know I damn well like the name Leonard. Both good names." He waggled his brows in her direction, wanting to make her laugh again. He liked his crew being relaxed with him.

Indeed, Nora couldn't help laughing at the eyebrow-waggle, covering her mouth with one hand - her family always did say she laughed too loudly. "Yeah, they are. I could see myself as a Leonard, if I had the testosterone." Her face brightened as she thought of something. "Hey, my grandpa's middle name is the same as your first name. Weird coincidence."

He liked her laugh, though. "Is it really?" He blinked at that, then grinned. "Small world, huh?" He sprawled in his seat, relaxed. "So tell me about yourself, Nora."

"Yep. His mom's maiden name - well, original name, I guess. She was never married. Anyway, it was Jameson, so she gave him James as a middle name." Nora stopped and thought a moment about the request. "I'm an engineer, and a singer, and a bit of a language enthusiast, and a bit more of a bibliophile." And she wrote sappy poetry on occasion, but she wasn't going to mention that.

Oh ho, another one who liked languages? He leaned forward with that. "What languages do you speak?" Maybe she would know one he didn't.

Well, probably not as many as he did, but still, Nora knew a few. "I speak French, Hebrew, Vulcan, Romulan, and Andorian. My roommate at the Academy was Andorian," she said by way of explanation, and grinned. "I liked knowing what she said when she was cheesed off."

A quiet chuckle. "I know that feeling. You speak Hebrew? Fluently? I'd love to learn if you're willing to teach." His brows came together. "Are you Jewish? How fluent are you in Romulan?"
