[NVC Day 27] -- [Open Office] -- [Open to All]

Jun 03, 2010 09:25

With the sentencing over, the Enterprise would soon be leaving Sha'Kwai and returning to its original mission. By this point, Jim was ready for it. He wanted off the planet, his wanderlust getting the better of it. It was the longest stretch of time he had spent in once place minus his years at the Academy - always moving, always traveling, wanting ( Read more... )

Aurelan looked over the message on her PADD again as she strode down the hallway. She'd just arrived on planet the day before and had been pleased to receive the message from the captain, as it saved her the trouble of trying to schedule a meeting.

Having sent a quick message to confirm directions, she soon found herself in front of the correct door. Aurelan knocked on the open door frame, calling out as she stepped inside.

"Captain Kirk?"

Who was this? Jim kept wondering about all of these strange people showing up at his door who he didn't know. There hadn't been that many new reassignments to his ship, less than a dozen. It was mostly people leaving. "Can I help you?"

"I'm Lt. Commander Aurelan Jira," she began, extending her hand. "Your new quartermaster."

The assignment had been rather abrupt, just giving her time to arrange transportation to the colony to meet Enterprise. As a precaution, she had brought along a copy of her orders and personnel file on her PADD.

"My new...?" Jim blinked at that. He hadn't even heard about that - but then again, he was still trying to keep up with the long list of paperwork at his fingertips. "What about Robert?" The older gentleman that had been in charge that had suffered through dealing with all the new comers... maybe that was the reason they had a new one.

"Sorry, just took me by surprise," Jim admitted, smiling as he shook her hand. "Pleasure to meet you. Have a seat."

"Likewise," she replied, sitting across from him. Surely the captain had been notified? Starfleet was notoriously slow when it didn't suit them to be otherwise, but Enterprise was departing in a few days. "The assignment was somewhat of a surprise to me, too. I have a copy of my orders, if you'd like to review them."

Robert's the best, isn't he?" Aurelan smiled warmly. "Taught me everything I know. I didn't receive full details with my assignment, but I gathered he was reassigned to Earth suddenly - his wife is ill, I believe."

"Oh shit, really?" Jim looked concerned. Robert was one of their oldest members of the crew, comparatively as he was a human, and if his wife was ill...

He quickly made a note on the PADD in front of him to send his concern to Robert and keep updated on it. Didn't matter who exactly it was, Jim worried about them as his crew.

"If you have a copy, I'd like to see your orders instead of digging them out of the pile."

Aurelan nodded. "I assume it's fairly serious since I'm here, but I hope everything will be okay. He and his wife sort of took me in while I was at the Academy... had me over for dinner every weekend." She smiled at the memory.

"Of course," she told him, pulling up the file on her PADD before handing it over.

"He seems like that kinda guy." Jim took the PADD and started reading rapidly. Seemed all in order. "Guess we're lucky they had someone to spare at the right time." He noted the file number and pulled it up on his own PADD, marking it for a more careful reading later. He handed her PADD back.

"Thank you," she responded as she took the PADD back. "I understand the ship was under repair for a while - is that completed? I'd like to get right to work if I may, and go over the inventory before everyone reports back."

She opened a new file in her PADD, prepared to take notes. "Is there anything special I should be aware of? I know the ship was overcrowded for a while, but I assume that has been resolved."

"It was under going a lot of upgrades," Jim confirmed. "Right now, we're going to be going through some hell making sure everyone ends up in their new quarters. Make sure everyone's crates and bags get to the right rooms and--" Remembering Bones and his talk with Scotty too... "We need to have all supplies double checked against inventory. Bon-- er, Doctor McCoy said he thought five crates of supplies were missing from sickbay's inventory."

Aurelan's fingers flew as she listened. Mostly standard operating procedure, assigning quarters and making sure everyone's things made it where they belonged. The missing supplies made her pause, though. "Medical supplies, sir? Anything of great value?" She put the supply check at the top of her list.

"Nothing all that valuable. Bones figured it wasn't more than two thousand credits, tops. It'd be damn easier to sell though, easy stuff like that, then lots of equipment that's branded up and down and inside out for Starfleet and traceable." The more Jim thought about it, the more likely it seemed that things had been stolen. He didn't like that one god damn bit.

She frowned, adding that information to her notes. "You're right, and if they're already off the ship the chance of recovering anything is not good. I'll check the supplies first thing and let you know what I find." Aurelan made a note to check in with her fellow quartermasters and see if anyone she knew had visited the colony recently. It was probably an isolated incident, but if not she'd hear about it.

"Thanks. Keep your eyes peeled for any other irregularities. You have my permission to talk to Security about getting tapes of the cargo holds where the crates were being kept - if they've walked out, I want to know whose feet were doing the walking." The idea of someone stealing from his ship... heads would roll when he found out how it happened.

"Will do," Aurelan replied. "Who's your head of Security?" She wanted these things accounted for. Robert, she knew, kept meticulous records, and she was confident that her search would confirm the supplies were indeed missing. The idea that they may have been stolen was troublesome, to say the least.

She sat back in her chair, tipping her sunglasses down from their perch in her hair as the sun glanced off one of the PADDs on the table. "Is there anything else? I tend to jump straight to work, I know, and you were a little blindsided by my appearance."

"Nothing else. Head of Security is John Grimm. Good guy, but he's brand new as of a few days ago. Probably why the crates were able to be lifted, because we haven't had good security lately." Which also meant the security on the space dock needed to be improved, unless it was one of them who did it.
