Tina didn't bother to send a reply to Kirk's message. She was already dressed, and getting out of her room sounded nice. The Captain had said his door was open, and it clearly was, but she stopped and knocked on the frame anyway, to let him know that she was there.

"Not true," Jim shook his head. "Kids.. means a tie for the rest of your life, unless you decide to give them up completely. Then they resent it. I can pick up a book and learn to be an engineer. But... I bet she'll be worth it. One amazing, beautiful little girl who will be a damn genius." He smiled slightly. "The choices we make."

Tina raised her glass. "Here's to having them, whatever we may choose."

"Here's to them, and your new home." Jim raised his glass towards her, then sipped some of the liquid. A new home for her, and finally the rest of them would be able to start their five year.

It was bittersweet. But Tina was confident now that she had made the right choice. For her.

"Thank you," she said. "For everything."

"No need to thank me, should be thanking you. You saved my life and dignity more than once, and the lives of my crew." He couldn't help a warm smile. "I know Bones is pissed to lose you."

"Ah, well. He needs things to get all grumpy about sometimes. At least I can provide him with one more on my way out, right?" She smiled, but her eyes were sad. "I'll miss him. Sickbay. Everything."

Jim hesitated for just a second before he asked quietly, "Why'd you decide to keep her?" He was curious about it. Maybe it was rude, not that he was beyond that, but... it was honestly something he was wondering.

"It came down to a gut feeling. I tried to talk myself into terminating. I knew it was the more logical choice. But when I thought about keeping her... It just seemed more right." Tina shrugged. "Which makes it sound like a moral decision, or something, and it wasn't that. I just knew what I really wanted, once I gave myself a chance to really feel one way or the other."

He knew a lot about trusting a gut decision. "You'll both due fine," Jim said warmly. "Do you need an escort back to your room?" Clearly teasing, but also serious if she wanted the company.

"No, I'm good." Tina stood up, leaving her empty glass on the table. "I'll just be sure not to have any strange drinks on the way."

She raised her hand, half-waving. "Thanks for the chat."

"Just because we're not together doesn't mean we're not a sub-space relay away," he gave a wave back. "Keep in contact with us."
