With the sentencing over, the Enterprise would soon be leaving Sha'Kwai and returning to its original mission. By this point, Jim was ready for it. It was an unorthodox way of holding office hours, but Jim couldn't argue with the impulse. Why didn't they have a deck? He and Spock had, fortunately, showing up during a lull, and Jim was glad to see that Kirk looked better than he had. Maybe they'd gotten someone to fix what had gone terribly wrong.

"Jim?" he called out from the door as he entered. "Sorry. Captain!"

It worked, as well as anything. Jim nodded, his smile softening.

"I'll miss you, Jim," he said. "It's been... once in a lifetime."

That made him smile and he nodded. "It... once in a lifetime isn't even the word. I'm going to miss you too." He couldn't help his sheepish expression.

Sometimes, they could be, in thought.

"Nope," Kirk said readily, grinning right back. He stood up, as it seemed a good place to end it, though he wondered about maybe talking to Spock later. He gave a glance to the Vulcan, wondering if his parting their pseudo-bond was why Spock seemed... almost cold, even for a Vulcan.
