[NVC Day 27] -- [Open Office] -- [Open to All]

Jun 03, 2010 09:25

With the sentencing over, the Enterprise would soon be leaving Sha'Kwai and returning to its original mission. By this point, Jim was ready for it. He wanted off the planet, his wanderlust getting the better of it. It was the longest stretch of time he had spent in once place minus his years at the Academy - always moving, always traveling, wanting ( Read more... )

The conversation with the pretty biologist the other day had Guinan thinking again about her next adventure. And how she would get there.

A few people had been talking about going to see the captain at his quarters, so after lunch she headed over to where the officers were staying. Guinan wasn't surprised that the captain had scored such nice digs.

Finding the door open was a surprise. "Hello?" she called out, peeking around the corner and seeing him outside.

It took Jim just a second or two to remember that face before he perked up. "Hello!" Damn what was her name... Guy... Goi... Guinan? That was it! "Guinan, you look lovely." He gave her a flirty grin.

"Hello, sunshine," she replied, stepping closer to him. "I heard you were seeing people today. Got time for one more?"

"For you? Always, always." He gestured towards the deck for her to have a seat. "What can I help you with?" He could feel a calm around her that he liked, that made him feel calm which was rare and difficult to do.

Nora was nervous. She was always nervous, truth be told, when she met someone new. New and important, in this case, so she'd made sure to put her hair up and generally not look like a sweaty mess. "Captain?" she said, rather tentatively. If she was going to be working on his ship, it might behoove her to introduce herself and make a good impression.

This... was a face he didn't know. Jim blinked at Nora, and gave a tentative smile. "Hello, can I help you?" He tried to make sure his smile and expression were inviting.

"Um. Hi, I mean..." Work, dammit! she inwardly shouted at her brain cells, and cleared her throat. "I'm Lenora Tovik. I've been assigned to the Enterprise, and I, uh, thought I might introduce myself." She smiled, trying to make it look normal.

The name rang a bell, matched to a profile of newly transferred people to his ship. His smile brightened even more as he offered out his hand. "Nice to meet you, Lt. Tovik. Lenora... a beautiful name. I'm glad you came by."

Hank figured now was as good a time as any to see the Captain. Maybe he'd find out who his section head would be. So he dressed in regulation reds, and presented himself. "Captain Kirk?"

Jim looked up from the PADD he was studying, and looked the man up and down once before assuming it was another new comer to his ship. The uniform was a bit of surprise - the rest hadn't bothered since they hadn't had to. "That's me." He stood up, offering out his hand. "You are...?"

"Lt. Henry Pierce, sir," Hank responded, shaking Kirk's hand firmly. He didn't indulge in any 'who has the stronger grip games. "I've been assigned to your ship."

Well that confirmed that. "Good to meet you." In his head he ran through files, trying to pull up the name. "Which department were you assigned to?" That would help limit it down.

Aurelan looked over the message on her PADD again as she strode down the hallway. She'd just arrived on planet the day before and had been pleased to receive the message from the captain, as it saved her the trouble of trying to schedule a meeting.

Having sent a quick message to confirm directions, she soon found herself in front of the correct door. Aurelan knocked on the open door frame, calling out as she stepped inside.

"Captain Kirk?"

Who was this? Jim kept wondering about all of these strange people showing up at his door who he didn't know. There hadn't been that many new reassignments to his ship, less than a dozen. It was mostly people leaving. "Can I help you?"

"I'm Lt. Commander Aurelan Jira," she began, extending her hand. "Your new quartermaster."

The assignment had been rather abrupt, just giving her time to arrange transportation to the colony to meet Enterprise. As a precaution, she had brought along a copy of her orders and personnel file on her PADD.

"My new...?" Jim blinked at that. He hadn't even heard about that - but then again, he was still trying to keep up with the long list of paperwork at his fingertips. "What about Robert?" The older gentleman that had been in charge that had suffered through dealing with all the new comers... maybe that was the reason they had a new one.

"Sorry, just took me by surprise," Jim admitted, smiling as he shook her hand. "Pleasure to meet you. Have a seat."

Despite her best efforts at concealing it, no observer could have failed to recognize the look on Janice Rand's face for quiet pleasure and pride as she walked through the open door and over to the Captain's desk. The famous Enterprise and its famous Captain, and Starfleet had allocated her to serve them both - any young yeoman would have been delighted.

Still, Janice tried to keep her expression at least mostly professional as she saluted the young man behind the desk. "Yeoman Janice Rand, sir, reporting for duty. I've just been detailed to the Enterprise."

Jim looked up at the young girl who came up to his psuedo-desk out on the deck. She was gorgeous for sure in the past he would have gone after her immediately but as soon as she declared her name and reported that got struck off the list. She had an interesting face. Unique. He liked that.

"Nice to meet you, Yeoman." He offered out a hand to her. "Forgive me, haven't gotten through every new person transferred to the 'prise yet. Who's going to be your direct supervisor?" He pulled up a search on his PADD, wanting to get her information. He knew medical had had an opening until Sam had filled it, but Spock and Grimm didn't have one yet...

Janice tried hard not to grin outright, and quirked her head a little to the side.

"Well," she said, " - I'm supposed to report direct to you, sir. Captain's meant to have a yeoman to do his donkey work."

...

The smile died almost instantly, brows shooting up. His fingers stopped over the PADD where they had been typing. He hadn't requested a yeoman. He and Spock had been doing just fine, specially with George helping out from time to time of his own free will. Why would Starfleet assign him a yeoman?

"There's a mistake," Jim decided. "I didn't request a yeoman."
