(OOC: If you want to be a part of this away mission, please read the whole post including OOC comments at the end for all information, captains orders, etc.)Kirk stared down at the ice planet on the forward view screen unhappily. He didn't have the best relationships with ice planets, and the idea of going down to this one had him less than pleased ( Read more... )

Getting out to keep from thinking had been both a good idea and a bad idea. Good, because it worked. Bad, because it immediately worked due to the fact he could think of nothing else beside the cold. It was like his bones still had ice in them and as soon as they were exposed back to it in any form, his whole body wanted to shatter ( ... )

Finally, finally. Nyota had been hard at work for the past hour, trying to hail anyone on the away team as soon as the storm on the planet had shown the least sign of starting to abate, her ears alert for the least hint of attempted contact. Just when she was going to change to a different frequency, Jim's voice had her flying to respond and send a message to the transporter room at the same time.

"This is Enterprise, Captain Kirk -- Jim, what's going on?" The strain of the past few hours bled through just a little, though she tried to keep her tone as professional as always.

Jim could have tried when he heard those words and that beautiful voice. "Uhura, you are the most beautiful thing I've ever heard. Get sickbay on ready and please get Scotty get us out of here. We're in trouble! We're separated from the rest of the group!"

"I've already contacted the transporter room and am alerting Medical now." She sent the message to sickbay even as she was still talking to him, so relieved to hear that voice. "Stand by, Captain. We've got you."

Nyota let out a sigh of relief, her eyes closing for a brief moment as that last message went out. She commed George, a short text message simply saying we've got them.

He ran.

Just ran as hard as he could, feeling the cold bite into his lungs until he had no air left in them. He actually slipped as he got close to the silver-pocket of warmth in the bones, slamming into one with a cry as it hurt. He winced as his body throbbed with it. "BONES! SPOCK! GET DRESSED NOW!"

Spock was rumbling away, tucked up neat and close to Leonard as he fed off of the exhilaration coming from his other two mates. He was already half-lying on top of him, and had been playing with one of his hands, rubbing their fingers together a little as his knee bent over Leonard's thigh...and then he heard the footsteps. Spock was sitting up as he heard the slip and fall, and he worried when he opened the bag and saw Jim wincing.

He didn't ask questions but they were there--Are you all right, Jim?--as he began to pull on his clothes as quickly as possible. He shivered, as he pulled on his trousers, shivered as he tugged on the multiple tops (undershirt, command shirt, both layers of overcoats), and shivered again as he pulled on his hat to cover his ears.

Leonard was dressed, too, and he internally mourned this fact. At least it would keep him warm for later.

Bones got dressed as fast as he could, layers and layers that were a pain in the ass but he knew would save his life. "You got a hold of them?" he asked, not stopping to wait for the answer.

They grabbed what they could and all headed back out, following Jim.

They managed to get surface with some effort, helping each other up. The second the last of them got onto the snow, Jim pulled out his communicator. "Kirk to Enterprise! Get everyone off this planet now! Leave us until the end make sure they're safe!"

The transport officer on duty has just arrived and was setting into reading his messages when the comm came from the bridge, from the great lady herself. Bring 'em home. "On it," he told her, honing in on their signals, still very fuzzy, the planet's atmosphere or something was fucking around with his system.

They were spread out, in groups. He opened the comm link to the bridge."First group materializing." First on board was a group of three men, security by the looks of it. "Welcome back," he called out, recognizing Pierce and Tyler. "Clear the pads, please."

The second group was more difficult, one of the lifeforms fading in and out. "Lock on the the second group," he called out, pressing buttons and watching carefully as they beamed on, four women (the cat-nurse looked very female, even in that old weather outfit) and someone on the floor, not moving. Fuck, he thought. This group got chewed up. "Second group on board, got injuries here ( ... )

Jim was throwing off clothing as he went, going for the bridge. He had to tell Starfleet what had happened, had to make sure all of his crew got back alive. His ribs hurt from having slid into the bones and the fall from the entrance but he ignored it.

He came up onto the bridge panting, sweating from the change in temperature. He looked to Nyota with grateful eyes. "Starfleet. Now. We have to tell them what happened and to quarantine the planet."

As soon as she heard the confirmation that they were all on board, Nyota was watching the lift, torn between running to meet them and staying in case she was needed. Jim's appearance was a relief - he wasn't hurt, at least not badly enough to need immediate attention.

"Right away," she replied, going to work without question. Enterprise to Starfleet Command, priority one.

The connection made, she turned to see Jim assume his usual place in the captains chair as she waited for a reply. The response, for once, was almost immediate, and her reply was brisk. "This is Lieutenant Uhura. Please stand by for Captain Kirk." She transferred the connection to him with a nod.

Jim squeezed her shoulder as he leaned over, his hand shaking slightly there. "Starfleet, this is Captain Kirk reporting on Planet Dayoumir VII, current mission. Colonists are all dead, they were wiped out by a mostly unknown creature of pure energy that drains life. Calling for a quarantine from the planet."

He looked to Nyota and nudged her gently. "Go see Spock, I'll be on this call for a while."

Her hand reached up to his, startled to find it shaking. Nyota squeezed Jim's hand lightly, her eyes locking with his for a moment. Nodding, she slipped away from the console, her worry increasing as she heard his report. ...Drains life?

She ran to the turbolift, impatient to get to Sickbay.
