*sits in his office, wondering when he started using it so much, working furiously through much hated paperwork that's backlogged since hell broke loose*

That's been done since I knew he was coming. He's next to my Dad's room, right down the hall. I think they have a lot of catching up to do.

Next thing. Pike wants to meet our prisoner. I think the three of us should go down there and deal with him after I speak with Uhura.

...I respectfully disagree, Captain. My time must be devoted to the transporter and calculating its alterations, and whatever support I may provide you and the Admiral has already been compromised by my first encounter with the prisoner.

This won't take long, I hope, so it won't matter that much in the long run. Getting the information out of this guy is more important. I need you there as my First Officer and there's going to be a barrier between you and him. You'll be fine. *gives Spock an odd look. Was the Vulcan afraid of their prisoner?*

I am quite familiar with the layout of Starfleet detention cells; physical harm is not my concern. [watching him with that emotionless gaze; no unusual tension.] If we assume that he is an alternate Pike, we must then assume that he is as well-versed in how to repel an interrogation. He will likely remain silent, or attempt to break the procedure by targeting what he perceives to be the weakest member of the triad. He would simply seek to offend me, or yourself indirectly through me, distracting us from our primary purpose and ultimately making the endeavour fruitless. Thus, I would be more of a hindrance.

*his brows slowly furrow, listening closely, but by the end just looks confused* Not that he would really offend you, or at least I'd think so...

*tilts his head slowly, then cautiously says* ...Spock, I'm getting the distinct feeling you're feeding me bullshit and you just don't want to do this.

I never expressed my willingness to do this in the first place, Captain.

You're my first officer. This should be something you'd expect to do.

I am aware of that. If you are still adamant about my attendance...then I will accompany you and the Admiral. Though I remain skeptical about the efficacy of my presence.

*looks silently at Spock, studying him*

*then slowly sighs* Alright, you keep going with the transporter, and Pike and I'll go down there.

...Thank you, Jim.

...

Moving on, I'll be blunt, because I always am.

I know more then I ever wanted to know about pon farr. I don't want to know anything about you and pon farr except one thing - do you know when it's supposed to happen for you?

[looks a little...surprised? at the question]

The timing is entirely related to biology, and because of my hybrid qualities and the secrecy of the matter, there is no precedent. The only window I may give you--with any measure of accuracy--is between now and the next seven years, probably on the latter half of that scale.

Oh, boy. That's accurate. *sighs* Okay look, we're coming up with a plan for how to deal with it, specially if we have no clue when its going to happen. I am not dealing with it again unprepared.

*almost unconsciously rubs the partly visible bruise on his neck*

The basic progression of events is easy enough to predict. [eyes the bruise on his neck, but says nothing about it, for now]

Predict, yes, but deal with, no. *glances to the side, frowning* At least you have someone you can bond with. *murmurs to himself mostly*

...Treating this with utmost confidentiality, [a pause for a slow breath] Simply because I am currently in a relationship does not mean that I will bond with that partner. There is no logic in pon farr.
