Let's post a more positive entry, now that I'm off for winter break...actually, I've been meaning to post this for a while LOL. It's just a small drabble on why I like the Basara series LOL. And you should too! XD
So, Sengoku Basara is a game series that bases all its characters on real historical Japanese people from the Sengoku era. Sorta like Samurai Warriors (from the creators of Dynasty Warriors). You play as these warlords as you beat up hundreds of soldiers in order to conquer Japan! Personally, I like Basara more than Dynasty/Samurai Warriors because the characters are all so memorable and ridiculous. XD More so in the games than in the anime.
I think my favourite part has to be the unique playstyles of each character. You'd think that in the Sengoku era, everyone wields katanas and they're all the same, right? But not in Basara! Somehow they've managed to give them such unique weapons, and even people who simply use swords wield them in rather unique ways! That's why I like it!
Unfortunately, my journal layout cuts off these videos a bit, but you can click on them for full size. But, you get the idea! Here's a quick rundown of the characters from the English version of Basara 3. The English voices are actually very good!

The following is for Sengoku Basara 3: Utage, an expansion for the game above, with new playable characters! Japan-only.

I wish Utage would get translated because I love the new characters, especially the joke characters. XD Here's a few character trailers to illustrate what I mean when I say that they're all so unique!
Otomo Sorin is the crazed leader of a fictional religion called Xavism, founded by a past Basara character, Xavi (loosely based on St. Francis Xavier). The religion believes in loving everyone, yet they use violence to convert people LOL. He fights atop a machine shaped like Xavi's head that shoot cannons and he can convert enemies to his cause. XD

Kobayakawa Hideaki is a coward and a glutton who really can't fight in the original Basara 3. He just flails around, causing damage as he bumps into you. XD In Utage, he gets some pretty snazzy moves of his own. His weapon is an oversized hotpot.

Mogami Yoshiaki is the "Weasel of the North." He acts all fabulous and drinks tea and fancy stuff like that... He fights using a fencing blade. To reflect his weasel-like personality, he has moves where he pretends to surrender, only to counterattack with a powerful attack. And in Utage, he can point at the sky, saying "Look, a fox!" and all the enemies will look over there, distracted and open to attack. XD

I could go on and on about how unique each character is, but I'll stop here. XD Basically, in a nutshell, I admire Basara because someday I want to be able to achieve this level of unique-ness for my characters as well. And how they are able to give characters such funny joke-like weapons and still make it work. XD
