Synopsis: Kai twiddled with the rings looped round his neck, recalling how they came to where they were now.

Putting a necklace around someone’s neck is not as simple as it seems. It is an act of surrounding the person in a loose embrace with your face in an intimate close proximity to the nape of the other’s neck while you struggle with the ridiculously tiny clasp as you fasten the chain. Merely giving a necklace isn’t enough. You have to go through the complete process of adorning it on for the recipient in order to be considered true and sincere. These thoughts wafted through Kai’s mind as he twiddled the pair of rings on the silver chain resting on his neck. A wide smile slowly stretched across his face when he recalled how the unusual “pendants” came about.
“I uh got this for both of us.” Reita said, his voice seemingly slightly higher pitched than usual. His face was turned to the side, cheeks bright beet red. Obviously delighted, Kai sucked his lips in, in a failed attempt to prevent his characteristic smile from showing, “Yup I can see that.” With trembling hands, Reita prised open the black velvet box, revealing a pair of similar patterned silver rings atop each other. He extended his other hand and once he had Kai’s in his, Reita slowly slipped on one of the silver bands. Slowly, millimeter by millimeter, the ring travelled down the gnarled finger, only to come to a sudden stop at the knuckle.
“You got my ring size wrong you moron!” exclaimed Kai, retreating his hand from the bassist and brought it closer to his face for further scrutiny. Reita blinked. “Ring size…?” Kai sighed, “Yes there are sizes for rings Rei.” Reita frowned. “No there are no free sizes,” Kai deadpanned. Reita said nothing and instead knotted his eyebrows even closer together as he tapped his chin. Kai said nothing too thus he remained silent knowing that casting confused glances at this juncture would be futile. He fiddled with the ring which was ostensibly 3 sizes too small, turning it this way and that. It was a simple silver band crafted with minimal designs. Plain and simple, just like the way they both were beneath all the hairspray and layers of cosmetics.
In the midst of confusion and strange tranquility, Reita abruptly stood up from his seat and lurched forward onto Kai, shocking him out of his wits. He wrapped his arms around Kai and slipped the necklace off his neck. After unfastening the annoying clasp, he lifted one end of the chain, allowing a strange pendant which must have been given by Ruki to fall off and roll onto the floor, then he picked both rings off the velvet sponge and inserted them through it. He licked his lips, leaned over once more, and securing Kai in that same embrace again, fixed the newly-modified necklace back where it was just moments ago.
“See this?” Reita pointed at the darker tint ring, “You’re responsible for that half of my heart now. It’s right next to where yours is.” Kai beamed, “Where’s your other half then?” The bassist remained where he was, closed his fingers around the drummer’s wrist and brought his hand to the left of his chest, “Right here. Right here, where you always will be.”
A/N: This hit me like BAM after watching a sappy fluff scene on tv LOL. I loveeee Kai's double-ring necklace! I highly doubt my description matches cos it's 4:39am and I was too lazy/tired to check for scans... Wrote this concurrently with 2 other one-shots I'm gonna complete soon! Go me!
