“Stop it Ruki,” Uruha panted, his left hand gripping onto the wall for support, “Don’t you get it? If you get rid of me, you get rid of Aoi too.”

Ruki sniggered. “Are you threatening me Uruha? Do you think I’d want you if disappear if not for the fact that you’re not protecting Aoi at all? You are fucking pathetic! A goddamn liability that’s what you are. I don’t need you. Aoi doesn’t need you.”

Uruha’s eyes welled up and his nose stung with the sensation he grew to familiarize over the years. Looking down at his feet, he whispered “I know. I know I’m useless. But can’t you see that by hurting me you’re hurting Aoi? Sooner or later he’s gonna find out about us Ruki. What do you think he’s gonna do then? He’s gonna freak out Ruki. He won’t be able to understand. Help me Ruki, help Aoi, help us.” He panted and sniffled, rubbing away tears that wouldn’t stop leaking from the corners of his eyes, but he jumped when the salty water came into contact with the wound contracted two nights ago. The wound, its dotted round circumference made more visible due to the partially clotted blood, sparked off this heated argument.

“Do you remember how I came about Uruha? If not for your useless self, I wouldn’t even be here in the first place. Do I have to remind you what you did which brought me into reality?” Uruha clamped his ears shut with his hands, willing Ruki’s voice which echoed around his head to fall silent, as he tried at the same time to wipe out the images that the back of his eyelids begun to envisage.

“Class, this is Shiroyama Yuu a new transfer student here who will be your new classmate. Treat him well.” The home teacher dully introduced, beckoning the student forward to the desk right in the middle of the classroom. Curious whispers shrouded him as he walked down the aisle, only ceasing when he placed his bag neatly onto the ground and pulled in his chair. He gulped as he nervously surveyed the classroom properly for the first time. Though he could feel everyone’s eyes on him and he started to break out in cold sweat, the student’s eyes remained bright and clear, for his hopes and anticipation of making many new friends in his class were high. Or rather, yet to be crumbled.

The school bell rang for lunch and simultaneously the entire class clinkered with taking lunch boxes and utensils out of their bags onto their desks. Yuu smiled as he saw what his mother had prepared for him beneath the blue lid. Octopus wieners were his favourite, and he was just about to dig in when the food right before his eyes were swiped onto the floor in one blurry motion. Perplexed, he blinked and looked up, to person who was overshadowing him.

“How old are you to still be having octopus wieners? Those are for elementary kids asshole.” The larger boy scoffed, turned on his heel and stomped past Yuu, trampling his mother’s efforts along the way.

Murmurings around him started again, rising in volume until he turned around and looked at them. Not with annoyance, not with disdain, but with wide bewildered eyes which wondered why no one went to his aid.
