Uruha squealed. The other three halted in their walking and looked at the direction that his finger was excitedly pointing too. Ah it’s Aoi. The tall, lanky, long-legged lecturer that Uruha’s been “lusting” over for ages. Kai sighed. Reita rolled his eyes while Ruki fanboyed along with him.

The lecturer walked briskly out of the elevator and Reita and Kai stepped in while Uruha’s and Ruki’s eyes followed him in wide-eyed wonder. Again, the former two turned to each other and rolled their eyes. The remaining two guys came in giggling.

“There’s still one and a half hour left before Calculus starts!” Kai whined, face-palming. Reita nodded in silent agreement. “OH OH we can go to the pool!!!” Ruki suggested. Uruha jumped up from his seat and exclaimed, “Yeah! We’ve not been there before! Let’s go and check out hot guys!” With that being said, the two teens started their giggling fit again. “What? In this weather?!” blurted Kai as he gestured dramatically to the scorching heat that threatened to engulf the grass outside, “But it’s so hot!!! Nooooooo I don’t wanna go! Right Rei?!” he then threw a pleading puppy-eye look at Reita’s direction. Reita gulped. “Erm... Ehhhh I think Kai has a point...” he said while scratching the back of his head. But nope, despite Kai’s and Reita’s protests, nothing could hinder hormone-overdosed teens from their pursuance of satisfying their lust. Ruki and Uruha grabbed each boy’s wrist and whisked them off to the pool at Engineering School.

“HOLD IT!” Kai shouted. But it was to no avail, Ruki, despite his midget-like stature, was dragging him along the corridors of Engineering School mercilessly. He was definitely not going to listen to what anyone has to say now. With the exception of Uruha of course, since the two of them were in this stupid plan together. Being supremely annoyed that no one was paying any heed to his protests at all, Kai screeched to a halt (which was really quite a feat as he wore almost frictionless slippers to school). Ruki jerked to a stop. Uruha stopped simultaneously too, causing Reita to almost fall over his own feet and his loosely-tied noseband to fall off his face. “What is it now?!” growled Ruki as he threw Kai’s wrist back at him. Despite feeling a little intimidated by Ruki’s frown, Kai inhaled a deep breath and said, “Fine, we’ll go with the two of you to see the guys. BUT, not to the pool. It’s too freaking hot out there and I’m not planning on getting myself any darker than I already am. We are staying in the SHADE.” Tilting his head to ponder a little, Ruki glanced over to Uruha who nodded in agreement. “Okay, that sounds fair to us.” And Ruki took hold of Kai’s wrist again, who groaned in response. Just as Ruki was about to march off, a low timid voice was heard. Kai and Ruki spun around. Uruha turned to face Reita, who looked like he really wanted to be somewhere else. Uruha knotted his eyebrows, prodded Reita’s shoulder and gave him a questioning look, urging him to continue with whatever he wanted to say as he really didn’t want to be kept waiting from the hot guys awaiting them. Reita just remained staring down at his sneakers, and mumbled “Can we go to the canteen to see instead? I don’t want to be caught looking at them. There’s no one else at the stands.” Kai bobbed his head enthuastically and flinched when Ruki gave him a killer glare. Uruha seemed rather put off, but nonetheless he conceded to his friend’s request. With that settled, the four headed to the furthest edge of the canteen, sitting at the last table which was nearest to the pool.

Noticing a few guys swimming laps in the pool, Ruki proceeded to lean back into the chair. He stretched out his short arms and sighed, “Man, this is the lif-“ Kai turned to look at his friend who was cut off in mid-sentence to see him pointing his shaking index finger to a plump boy playing a yo-yo. He was blocking Ruki’s perfect view. Uh oh, this can’t be good. Kai looked over at Reita who looked like he had given up all hope of escaping. Uruha though, on the other hand, didn’t seem to be affected at all. He was staring happily in the distance with his face cupped in his hands. Ruki was furious. Uruha was oblivious to all that was happening at the table. As if to emphasise this point, he sighed in contentment. “That stupid boy is blocking my view!! He’s-He’s looking here!! Does he think we’re looking at him?!” Ruki spurted out. Kai choked on his saliva, “What are you talking about?” His friend must be too giddy-headed to even think clearly, Kai thought. Rolling his eyes at Ruki, Kai tilted his head to the side to look at the boy. ‘Holy shit. He really thinks we’re looking at him. He’s trying to impress us with his lousy skills!’ were the first thoughts that clouded his mind when he saw the boy dropping the yo-yo for the umpteenth time that afternoon. Kai groaned and shook his head in despair. How more ridiculous and warped can this whole thing get? Deciding not to say anything to agitate Ruki any further, Kai took out his iPhone 4 to tweet instead. Ruki on the other hand, was spitting with rage and cursing and swearing under his breath while his eyes followed the boy’s every move, as if trying to drive him away with his venomous glare. When Uruha turned his attention back to the table, he noticed Ruki’s wrath exuding from his shaking form and looked at Reita questioningly, seeing that Kai was too absorbed in his handphone. Reita timidly pointed to the fat boy bouncing his yo-yo. Trailing his eyes from the boy to Ruki, Uruha giggled. “What the hell is so funny?! My view is totally ruined while you’re having the time of your life!” Ruki huffed and crossed his arms. Uruha’s giggles died down and said “Didn’t it ever occur to you that he might be a younger sibling of one of the guys down at the pool?” A few moments of silence passed. And the realisation began to dawn on Ruki. “Ohhh-“ he started but Uruha’s attention was already somewhere else. Uruha’s jaw was slacked and his eyes widened with miraculous wonder. Ruki followed his gaze and shrieked when he saw what came into view.

“What the hell?!” Kai’s attention was snapped again when he heard that sound. What greeted his eyes wasn’t something he had expected at all. Both Ruki’s and Uruha’s fingers were pointing shakily at the long-legged lecturer who was clad in only black speedos. Kai face-palmed yet again “Oh my god... This can’t be happening...” Reita didn’t react at all though. Suddenly a plonk was heard. Kai spread out his fingers and peered through the gaps. Uruha’s head was on the table! And Ruki was shaking his shoulders and yelling for him to wake up. Kai’s brain lagged for a moment as he pieced together the information that seemed to make no sense at all. Right, he then came to the only irrational rational conclusion that Uruha passed out from seeing Aoi in speedos, which again, really didn’t make any sense to him at all. Kai wasn’t too sure about Reita now though, because now the nose-banded teen was gazing dreamily at the lecturer and not paying their friend who had just fainted in front of them any heed. ‘Oh no, not another one now this time’, Kai thought. Ruki dialled for the ambulance and the 3 of them were on the way to the hospital.

Reita was standing rigid at a corner of the room, speaking rapidly in Japanese with his mother. Kai was curled up frowning on the couch, counting his toes over and over again as the right numbers just didn’t seem to add up. Ruki was sitting on the edge of the chair, begging Uruha to wake up over and over again. Suddenly, an audible gasp rang throughout the room. Kai glanced up towards the bed. Uruha was stirring in his coma. He was waking up! Ruki bounced up and down excitedly, “You’re up! You’re up! Look! I snapped a pic of Aoi just now!” he squealed while shaking Kai’s handphone in Uruha’s face. Upon setting eyes on the lecturer with droplets of water trickling down his toned chest, Uruha swooned and collapsed back on the bed. ‘How did my phone end up in Ruki’s hands in the first place? How did he take that picture?’, Kai pondered, not making any attempt to seize it back knowing that he would fail without a doubt. Then he recalled that Ruki must have stolen it when he face-palmed while they were fanboying. Kai’s left eye visibly twitched. “Oi Uruha, Uruuuuuuha!!” Ruki reached out in attempt to shake Uruha awake again. But all was to no avail. Just as Kai who decided to give up was about to slump back into the couch to catch some shuteye, an explosive sound was heard and the door was flung open. All heads except Uruha’s turned to the direction of the intrusion.

“You naughty twerps! What have you done to my son?!” An obese woman with big afro-mad hair screeched while pointing at a perfectly fine if not rather pale Reita, “What have you all done to land him in hospital?!” Though everyone in the room knew that the person lying on the bed was not Reita, but Uruha. Ruki and Kai looked at each other in confusion. What the hell? They were being lectured because this mad bitch’s son was visiting a good friend in hospital? ‘People can’t be sane nowadays’, Kai thought, shaking his head sadly as he thought of his friends behaviour earlier on. “Just what are you shaking your head at you stupid boy?!” Reita’s mother shouted at Kai. Just as Kai was about to retort, Reita’s mother lunged at Ruki and snatched Kai’s phone out of his hands. “Who the hell is this?” she mumbled, as she scanned the image before her. “My, my, he does look dashing doesn’t he Reita?” Reita wrinkled his brow in confusion. “Oh my god, no. What the hell? Now Reita’s MOTHER is smittened too!? This seriously can’t be happening!” Kai moaned and smacked his forehead against the wall.

“What are you doing?! Give me that back!” Ruki demanded, jumping and trying to reach out for the phone. “NO! You’ve done this to my son and the least you can do to compensate me is give me this pic-I mean, phone!” Reita’s mother huffed. “Oh no you don’t! Aoi is ours and ours only! No mad woman is gonna have him nor his picture!” Ruki shouted back. Whipping around, Ruki clutched on to Uruha’s shoulders. “Uru! Reita’s mother has stolen Aoi from us!” At the mention of the magic name word, the steady beeping sound that was resonating in the room sped up. The green pulse rates on the black monitor flew out of the screen and Uruha literally shot out of the bed. “Who did what?! Who dares to steal Aoi from us?!” Uruha shot a venomous glare at the only unknown person to him in the room. The obese woman was now gripping onto Kai’s phone with her dear life. Ruki crossed his arms and smirked, “You show her Uru!” Uruha advanced slowly towards Reita’s mother, the two of them beginning to circle each other. Reita whimpered. Kai already had tears welling up in his eyes as he could already forsee the demise of his spanking new iPhone. The two deranged human beings could get out of this alive, but not his phone for sure. He let out a sob. As soon as that thought ended, the two said beings lunged at each other. Hands gripping hair, feet kicking face. Shrieks rang out throughout the room. Reita was becoming more frantic by the minute. His pleadings for his mother and friend to stop fighting were unheard. Ruki was cheering Uruha on with the pillows he took from the bed. And Kai was already wailing when he saw bits of copper and some plastic parts flying out from the tussle in front of him. Wait, was that a chip of the screen? His floodgates opened even more. Ruki then turned his attention to Kai. “Now now” he tried to console him, “Your phone might die, but I’m sure the SD card will be alright! The picture will be fine!” Ruki smiled warmly and continued his cheering while Kai’s floodgates had levelled up to its maximum level and were now releasing Niagara Falls from each side of his face. Reita had taken to head banging noiselessly since no one gave a care about him. Not even his mother. He felt as though he could die which was why he was banging his head right now.

“HAH!” Uruha cried out in victory, his fingers holding the SD card (only, without the iPhone) in all its glory, with his right foot on the ground and left foot hoisted up as it was squishing down onto Reita’s mother’s face. “YOU GO DUDE!” Ruki screamed and ran towards Uruha who received him in both arms. Both males held hands and pranced around in victory circles. “Let’s go print a huge bigass poster of Aoi now!” Ruki chimed excitedly. Uruha nodded, and both boys skipped away happy with Uruha swinging the ultimate prize above his head. Reita was now leaning over his mother, silently crying for her to wake up as all his mother was capable of responding was twitching her facial muscles. Kai was left picking up the miniscule bits of his iPhone left on the floor, bawling out loud as he did so. All that was heard in the vicinity were Reita’s begging and Kai’s sobbing until another cry of sorrow was heard.

Reita and Kai peered to each other in concern as that cry sounded awfully familiar. Helping each other up and abandoning the fat woman on the floor for the time being, the victims of this whole incident made their way out of the room.

For the second time of the day, what was portrayed before their eyes totally wasn’t expected at all. Uruha and Ruki each were tearing their own hair out and clawing at their arms as they sat slumped down and bawling beneath the ledge of a window at the corridor. Upon seeing Reita and Kai approaching, the two of them lifted their index finger shakily up to the ceiling where a big black crow perched, clamping a shiny microchip in its beak.

And for the first time that day, Reita and Kai turned to each other and smiled.
