Synopsis: A drummer never gets to be in the limelight.
Comments: I'm on a roll.

It was the same lie after another whenever Kai said he could see each and every face of the fans down below, or surrounding him. Be it just him and his drum set on the ground, or on an elevated platform, he could see nothing but a blur.

All that was in his line of sight was the back view of his band mates. He had grown so accustomed to seeing it over the years that he could distinguish who it was immediately with just a mere split second glance of a shoulder or the back of an elbow.

Well, that didn’t apply to their vocalist for sure, as all Kai had to look at was his hair. He never had to crouch down low to peek at Ruki’s back of his arms for their height difference forbidded him to do so.

With every live, Kai would wish that he could be in the frontline as well. He yearned to see the ecstatic faces of the crowd below, and to have his perspiration fly onto the floor and onto other human beings instead of only the skin of his drums.

It didn’t matter to him that the two guitarists could thrill the audience by baring their skin, and that he was capable of virtually nothing at all as he was stuck behind his drum set. What ostensibly perturbed him was when their little vocalist pranced around the stage, locked his arm around the nape of a particular bassist’s neck he seemed to fancy as compared to the rest, and sing into the microphone with his face excruciatingly close to the other as though it was perfectly normal to do so.

Well, for Kai who had always remained in the background, Ruki might never have noticed it but he could see the slight quiver of Reita’s shoulders. The shadow of discomfort the bassist felt whenever the vocalist violently intruded into his personal boundaries.

It is true however whenever Kai said that each live is fully charged of emotions. He was pissed with Ruki, guilty during MCs when he lies to the fans that he could see them all clearly, and also a sense of protectiveness would also be triggered whenever the bassist came into the picture.

All these bugged Kai greatly, and it would come as no surprise if anyone who found these out says that Kai has never enjoyed performing live for he was always overshadowed and seething with rage and jealously at the back.

This would be true of course, if not for the little detail that Kai had yet to mention. It didn’t matter that he was always in the background. It didn’t matter much that Ruki was over zealous with his hands. What really mattered in each live was the small smiles the bassist threw each time he looked back during random short intervals of their shows.

That was what really mattered and made being a drummer of the GazettE worthwhile.

A/N: A little long for a drabble but what the heck.

band: the gazette, pairing: kaixreita
