Comments: Another café fic ._.

Reita's right eye twitched. He stared down at the tiny black insect swimming its way across the sea of black coffee in a porcelain cup. What the hell..?

He stared down at the beetle, watching how its legs twisted and convoluted, as it struggled to reach the circumference of the cup.

He stared down at the cup of coffee so intently that he was startled out of his wits when a loud shriek out of nowhere broke his line of concentration.

"Oh my god it's so cute! Look Aoi! The little beetle is swimming around in the cup! I wanna have a pet like that too!" a tall man with weird long hair squealed, hopping right next to Reita's table as he peered wide-eyed into the cup.

"No and no, Uruha. That thing is drowning and struggling to live not swimming and waddling around for leisure. C'mon now, let's not bother this gentleman." the man named Aoi said, putting his arm around his childishly amused boyfriend who was reaching out for the white cup. He nodded in apology to Reita and whisked the deranged man away with much difficulty.

As though that sudden change of events was not strange enough, this time stubby knobbly fingers came into view and secured itself around the curve of the cup's handle.

"Excuse me, what are you-"

Reita was about to lash out at the crazy man with crazy hair when he realised it was a different figure standing in its place.

He blinked and gaped. This was getting mildly too unbelievable.

"Oh there was a bug in your drink so I thought I'd get you another", said the new stranger. "Oh and you look like you'd be happy to have this" he turned around and passed the cup into Uruha's outstretched hands who received it happily though his face quickly fell into dismay when he saw that the beetle had become immobile.

Reita half stood up and reached out a hand to protest but again, a loud wail rang throughout the little cafe.

The man called Aoi from before appeared out of nowhere, mumbling a string of apologies again and dragged his boyfriend away from the two men.

Reita was stumped. He turned to look at the calendar with abnormally large fonts behind the glass display cases full of pies and cakes. Today was unmistakably a Sunday. He looked to the right and stared at the digital clock which read ‘8:07 am’.

Who or rather, what on earth wakes up this early on a Sunday morning to create a ruckus in public and make a fool out of himself!? And hold on a moment, this other guy wasn't a waiter working here, nor was he someone he knew either.

Reita rubbed his temples, closed his eyes and inhaled a couple of deep mouthfuls of air as he prepared himself for the next adversity he was to face during the short span of 15 minutes.

“Do I know you?”

“Nope,” replied the stranger as he took a seat opposite him without permission. He smiled and waved the waiter over, ordering the same cup of coffee Reita had before it was intruded by the beetle.“Neither do I, but I'd like to if you don't mind.”

At that, Reita frowned.

The stranger tilted his head to the left. “Is anything wrong?” His eyes narrowed a little as he asked that, his posture too, leaned forward in curiosity.

Before Reita could reply, the waiter arrived at their table and placed the exact same cup of coffee Reita had just now. The stranger then lifted the small metal lid of the sugar can and dropped 2 and a half cubes of sugar into the black liquid. He pushed it over to Reita and grinned. “Here you go!”

Giving the coffee a few stirs, Reita brought it to his lips and took a tentative sip. It tasted identical to the one he had before the series of weird happenings occurred.

“How did you know what drink I was having and how I like my coffee to be?” asked Reita slowly, as he savoured the bitter sweet taste of the black syrup.

The stranger shrugged and gave him another easy smile with a dimple at the side. “I’m good at coffee, but I’m even better at reading people if I may say so myself.”

Reita lifted a skeptical brow. “Really? Instead of telling me how I’m like and those shiz, tell me what I’m lacking.”

The stranger leaned forward again and placed his elbows on the table top. He rested his chin on the back of his fingers which were clasped together and smiled again, his eyes narrowing into half-moons.

“That’s simple. You’re lacking a Kai. Something which would bring you happiness and joy into your mundane bitter life. It’s the same theory as applying 2 and a half cubes of sugar into bitter black coffee.”

Reita swallowed. “A Kai? What’s that?”

The stranger extended his hand for a handshake, “From today onwards I’ll be your 2 and a half cubes of sugar. My other alias is Kai. Nice to meet you.”

It was the most absurd thing Reita had ever heard. Yet his hand gravitated towards the coarse one in mid-air. His mind went blank when the stranger’s fingers closed around his and he failed to register the loud boom that came from the cashier when Uruha smashed his ex-cup of coffee onto the register as he demanded the supervisor to sell him the same pet which he swallowed by accident much to Aoi’s horror when he tried to revive it by giving it CPR.

A/N: I've had this sitting around half-baked for a veryyyyyyy long time now. So I made use of my insomnia + getting trapped at a bus stop thanks to the rain to finish it up! Go me! xD
