It was 2 whole months before Yuu came to in a whiter than white 7 feet by 7 feet room. His bed frame was shiny silver, sheets were white, and so was the table and window next to him. His room was tiny, an enclosed space for a trapped bird which had broken its wings; for a human who had clean forgotten what had taken place 2 weeks ago, whose fragment of memory now lay suppressed beneath layers of detriment and agony.

Barely after Yuu registered his surroundings and gathered that he was in an institution of some sort due to a plastic wrist tag which scarcely concealed multiple white stripes and unnoticeable to him at the same time due to the overly bright fluorescent light, he had yet to figure out why he was there. He didn't have to wonder long before his mother came in, a smile of relief on her face as she hugged her son tightly. She dabbed at her eyes a little as she sat on the chair next to his bed, her free hand clutching his as she did so.

Yuu soon learned that he had been in coma for 2 months and the doctors diagnosed it as an aftermath of shock and trauma. It was futile asking his mother the cause of it as try as he might, Yuu just couldn't remember when she refused to answer him. At that timely juncture, a man in a long white coat, whom Yuu presumed to be the doctor entered. The doctor nodded at the both of them, picked up the clip board and scrawled down some details before returning it to the table in front of Yuu.

Yuu decided that now would be the best chance to get answers to the many questions that were lingering at the tip of his tongue.

"Excuse me, exactly what happened to me before I was here?"

The doctor coughed and his mother averted her eyes.

"After various discussions held with doctors from different departments, and with consent from your mother, we have decided that it is best for your well-being that you do not know that."

Yuu was taken aback.

"What!? But that concerns me! I was involved so I have the right to know!"

"Yes, that is true. However, you are a minor thus we have the discretion to make decisions on your behalf. Furthermore I believe that Shiroyama-san here has told you that you were admitted for shock and trauma, which landed you in a coma for 2 months. If you are to learn of the incident, you may suffer a greater ordeal than before and even we cannot predict the consequences you will suffer. It is for your own good and well-being Shiroyama-kun. Please do not press us further."

This was fucking unbelievable!

"Then how am I supposed to carry on with my life knowing that something major had happened to me but not know what exactly? How am I going to answer that and live on normally when there's a gap in my memory? My days will go by with this curiosity burning inside of me."

The doctor merely readjusted his glasses and said, "Curiosity kills the cat Shiroyama-kun. I hope it doesn't do the same to you, seeing that you barely escaped it once. With that, I'll leave you with your mother."

Another grim nod, he exited the room.

His mother's sniffles brought his attention back to her. "Please Yuu, don't try to remember or ask us what happened. It is better for all of us if you don't. It is better for you too Yuu. Let's just move on shall we?"

Yuu could barely tear his eyes away from her tear-stained ones. The last time he had seen her this way when his father had walked out of them, and even then, Yuu was the one holding her and begging her to be strong and carry on living, that though it was only the two of them now, they would be fine. His mother had nodded and believed him then, now it was his turn. He embraced her back and inhaled the familiar comforting smell of her musky shampoo. Closing his eyes, he dipped his forehead into the crook of her neck.

"Yes mum, I won't pry anymore. I promise."

She rubbed away tears with the back of her hand and cupped Yuu's cheek fondly. "That's good Yuu. That's my son."

A few days later, Yuu was discharged. While his mother was signing the paperwork, he had glanced over and found out that they had moved to Tokyo. When he questioned her afterwards, she told him that it had been a suggestion of the doctor that they relocate to a different environment so that they can start afresh. It was also recommended for Yuu to change his name so he could shed off his past and build up a new identity as well. It all made sense to Yuu except for the last bit. But when he was about to query about it, a touch on his arm and that look in his mother's eyes silenced him. He swallowed his dying curiosity and decided to comply with the adults' decisions. Biding goodbye to the doctor and nurses, Yuu exited the large glass doors with his mother.

Fresh air struck him the moment he set foot outside. All his eyes could take in were trees and more trees. Beyond that were peak of mountains lined up next to each other, and when Yuu spun around, he read the name of the place he had been residing at for the past 2 months for the first time.
