Aiji was never known as one to take risks. He was definitely never a daredevil nor did he take the mere minimal number of risks to be classified as a low risk taker. To put it simply, he had never taken risks ever and had led his life with full cautiousness and awareness of what he did and what consequence would result from that.
He was one who would bring double or triple times more stationery than necessary during exams. Lead pencils, mechanical pencils, ballpoints, gel pens, he had them all as one would never know when a lead tip might snap and when a mechanical one might jam or whichever pen might screw up in the midst of a paper. Yup, he was definitely well-liked by his classmates and the class he was in would always be well-provided for. Not to mention, he was Mr. Nice Guy too.
He was one who would stock up on can food and instant noodles for one would never know when fresh food would run out in the fridge or be so busy till one has no time to cook. Yes, Aiji was also a firm believer of 3 meals a day. A non-risk taker has to live by routines too.
He was one who lived his life day by day in the same fashion, monotonously. It was akin to flipping a book with the same old pages over and over. Though, all this abruptly came to a halt when he met Maya.
Maya, who had longish blonde hair with pink streaks. Maya, who openly declared his favourite colour combination of hot pink and black. Maya, who favoured strawberry lollipops above anything else even way past his childhood. Maya, who was the polar opposite of paranoid and conventional Aiji.
They had met when Maya crashed through their dorm door on a particular Monday morning on the first day of university. He was Aiji's designated roommate and for some unfathomable reason, the totally different duo clicked immediately and became inseparable ever since.
Aiji couldn't understand Maya. How one could adore Starbucks for its aroma but detest the bitter taste of coffee, his undiagnosed ADHD disorder and man-child syndrome, his willingness to always try new things, and most of all, his ability to see the same thing as what Aiji sees in a totally different light. Yes, Aiji couldn't get Maya at all, as they were everything each other aren’t.
"Oh damn! My bag is full! I can't cram this umbrella in! Aiji groaned, trying to force the said object into his more than stuffed bag pack. "Leave it then. Why would we need one in the first place?" Maya asked, " It might not rain at all you know," rolling around on the lower bunk of the double-decker they shared, and prodding Aiji's left shoulder with his toes.
"That's the point! We won't know, but there's the 50% chance that it might rain. So we should bring it just in case," Aiji replied matter-of-factly.
"Well~ Like you said, there's also the other possibility that it won't rain, so let's just take that chance. C'mon you're wasting time!" Maya whined, grabbing the bag and dragging Aiji out of the room.
The pair had only started to leave Starbucks when suddenly a loud clap of thunder was heard. The next thing they knew, it started to pour.
"Oh shoot, let's run for it!" Maya exclaimed, pulling over his hoodie. "But we might get wet and catch a cold!" stuttered Aiji, wrapping his arms around himself and shrinking back towards the wall of the cafe they had just left. "Heck it Aiji! Who cares! Even if we do catch it, we won't DIE from it," Maya retorted, rolling his eyes. He then extended his hand towards Aiji, who looked down at it, unsure of whether to grab it or not.
"So are you willing to take this chance with me?” Maya asked, his tall blonde form already standing in the rain. Aiji looked up, his hair partially blocking his eyes from gazing at the warm hazel brown ones staring deeply into his, somehow finding his heart racing and unsure of what Maya really meant.
But for the first time in his life, Aiji held on.
