Synopsis: Aoi and Shou have split personality disorder. What happens when parts of themselves hate and love one of the other, when the main individuals themselves are not aware of their other identities?
“You mean Shou doesn’t know?” Aoi slowly said. His fingers rose to his temples, rubbing in slow circles as he ingested the situation. His eyes met the pair gazing up at him. Again, his expectation of meeting larger orbs which sparkled with life was not met. Instead, the person on the floor was not Shou.
It was Hiroto.
Hiroto, with keener eyes, sallow cheeks and fuller lips.
“He doesn’t.”
Aoi was appalled. His knees buckled and he collapsed back onto a chair by the desk. “How is that possible? How long have you-has this been going on?”
Unlike Aoi, Hiroto was fully calm and composed. “I’ve been with Shou since he was a kid. Since his mother died.”
Gripping his knees till his knuckles turned white, Aoi could not make sense of what Hiroto was saying. Hiroto, who was supposed to be Shou. Where has Shou gone to? He has got to be in that body somewhere.
“Where’s Shou?”
At that, Hiroto snickered. “What do you mean Shiroyama-kun? He’s outside isn’t he.”
“Stop joking around! You’ve hidden him somewhere. Somehow. I don’t understand…” His fingers gripped his hair and Aoi tore his gaze away to the ground. He stared at the planks of varnished wood.
Hiroto’s chuckles came to an abrupt halt. “I didn’t hide him anywhere Aoi. Shou created me. I was born out of Shou’s loneliness and his inability to deal with grief when his mother passed on. Contrary to what you think, I’m not a bad person. If not for me, Shou wouldn’t be who he is now. If not for me, Shou wouldn’t be the Shou you know.”
But Aoi only clutched at his scalp tighter. How could Hiroto speak as though this was all rational? How could two different persons exist in the same body? If not for him Shou wouldn’t be who he is now? How is Aoi supposed to understand that!? Hiroto is the one who shouldn’t be here! And to think Shou is blind to all of this…
Just then, something clicked.
“Wait. So the reason Shou has been in this facility for practically his whole life is because of you? Everyone knows about you except him? Is that why you can “visit” him so unconditionally?”
With his palms placed behind him, Hiroto stretched his legs out and nodded. “I guess you could say so. You can even say that this place was built just for Shou. Or me. Depends on how you see it.”
Aoi’s eyes widened. His head shot up. “What do you mean? Built just for Shou?”
Now it was Hiroto’s turn to be perplexed. “You don’t know? Shou’s real name is Kohara Kazamasa. Kazamasa Mental Institution. The head doctor here is his father, and you’re also his patient.”
