Synopsis: Aoi and Shou have dissociative identity disorder. What happens when parts of themselves hate and love one of the other, when the main individuals themselves are not aware of their other identities?

When the door closed behind Hiroto, his hands were trembling. Fear and uncertainty now washed over him in waves, purging him of the faux coolness and confidence he had earlier on.

His greatest question had been answered. It was rhetorical actually. If he had always believed Uruha was still around, so would Ruki. Ruki had always wanted to get rid of Uruha after all...

The concept of him, Uruha and Aoi being the same entity had never seemed to sink into Ruki. Or perhaps he never wanted to admit that he and Uruha were actually the same person though they were polar opposites.

Hiroto wobbled shakily to a bench and collapsed. He and Shou were a one of a kind. Cases of a host and his alter-ego, or dissociated identity as they now call it, had never been known to share a relationship such as theirs. Mutual feelings of dependency; Hiroto wondered if he depended on Shou as well. Mutual feelings of love, care and concern; Does that make Shou a narcissist?

No doctor could put a finger on their situation.

Was a patient deemed incurable if he didn't want to be cured? This seemed to be so in Shou's case. His adamant refusal to face up to reality and unlock the built up grief and loneliness in his heart had led to Hiroto. Hiroto, who materialised out of Shou's ideals of a perfect companion.

As much as their ''illness'' was complicated, their relationship was simple and clear cut, unlike Aoi's.

Hiroto could clearly see how detached his identities were. Uruha hid beneath the surface. His timid and cowardly nature allowed him to surface only in Aoi's subconscious. His weak character led him to resort self-hurt to cope with Aoi's pain. Ruki on the other hand, lurked in the background as well. As compared to Uruha who only dared to come out on numerous occasions in the dark, Ruki had only appeared twice. Despite that, due to his headstrong and oppressive character, he dominated Uruha and despised him. For someone who inflicts physical hurt to others to deal with Aoi's emotional pain, Ruki couldn't understand Uruha.

It was ironic that in doing so, he was causing Uruha enormous emotional agony that doubled in the combination of the other alter ego and the host himself.

It was a sad irony that Ruki's actions were tearing Aoi even more apart inside.

Hiroto calmed himself down as he analysed them carefully. With Ruki's sudden appearance, it spelled nothing but a bad omen. Who knew when he could take over and spark another incident with the same or larger extent of damage as serious as the one two years ago? Hiroto shuddered at that thought.

Ruki was dangerous. Not only to Shou, him and innocent people, but to Aoi and Uruha as well. In Ruki's ardent quest to destroy Uruha, he would unknowingly wipe out Aoi too, thus defeating his goal of protecting him. It was their role to shield their host from coming into any more harm. And Ruki, unbeknownst to himself, was Aoi's largest pitfall.

Hiroto's ears perked. The sound of footsteps from the room in front of him became increasingly louder, until the door swung open and Aoi materialised before him.

"Sho-Hiroto? I just had the weirdest dream. I think I might have sleepwalked all the way here. That sounds ridiculous right? I dreamt I even tried to hit you!" Aoi laughed as he made his way over to Hiroto on the bench.

"It wasn't a dream Shiroyama-kun. You weren't sleepwalking either."

The smile on Aoi's face disappeared. He froze in his tracks. "What do you- What are you-"

Hiroto bowed his head and clasped his hands. When he finally lifted his head and looked at Aoi's stricken face, he said in the clearest voice he could muster, "You're just like Shou, Shiroyama-kun."

Aoi tumbled a few steps backwards. His back crashed into the wall as he slid downwards. Suddenly vivid images from all over were crashing into his line of sight, forming a blur he could not see. His head throbbed and he clutched at his hair.

"Shiroyama-kun? Shiroyama-kun?"

It sounded far away. Aoi stretched out a shaky hand to grasp it but another wave of turmoil struck his head.

"Damn you! You'll regret this!"

His lips parted and growled, releasing a voice that was startlingly similar to his own, yet not completely his. Aoi clawed at his throat. Pain shot and spread from his skin to his nerves, circulating right down to the core of his bones.

"Shiroyama-kun!"

That call was even more distant now. It was impossible to tell which direction it was coming from. Was he even in the same dimension?

"Aoi? Aoi!? What's happening to you? Aoi!"

A splash of light lit up the swirling abyss for a second and Aoi could make out Shou crouching over him. His large eyes were filled with anxiety and worry.

"Shou I-"

As soon as the light came, it went. And Aoi's consciousness followed.
