I have to make a connection.
That was what slipped into my mind when our eyes met, when you tapped me on the shoulder that serene evening in the bookshop when my wallet fell out of the back of my jeans. “Hey, your wallet,” you said as you picked it up and passed it to me. “Be careful there,” you smiled, the rays of the setting sun reflected in your pupils as the tips of our fingers brushed. The orange glow emitted through the glass panes made your auburn hair glow a deep hazel, the bleached tips an odd shade of vermillion. As strange as your hair was, Mother Nature’s spotlight was on you, and focused on you alone.
I couldn’t take my eyes off you.
As quickly as you approached me, you left. Your slim frame exited the store and disappeared down the street. I could only avert my gaze down onto the item you handed to me. My coarse thumb smoothed over the worn texture of the leather wallet and I felt a gentle warmth boiling from the pit of my stomach right down to my fingertips. I smiled. My skin had just grazed over where you had touched.
We had made a connection.
I couldn’t get to sleep that night. Our brief encounter in the bookstore replayed itself with absolute clarity. Your voice, your words, your eyes which twinkled as it met mine, and your lips - its shade and shape so exquisite even the most ethereal woman could not compare - which curved into a beautiful smile as our fingers touched. That was when I knew, with certainty that we were meant to be.
I had to see you again.
My eyes sprang open when my alarm rang. After throwing on some clothes and rushing through the basic morning routine, I grabbed my keys and made a dash to the door. But the tiny silver corner of my digital camera caught the corner of my eye. Back tracking a couple of steps, I shoved it into my coat and left. I was so early that the bookstore wasn’t open for business yet. I leaned against the cool shutters and waited. Fortunately, it wasn't long before a young chap came jogging down the pavement, nodded to me, knelt down, jammed a key into the keyhole and opened the shop. I entered. It was 0915.
The wait begun.
Seconds ticked by on the large longer hand of the giant analogue clock. It was now 1427 but it was alright. I was at peace. The steady ticking calmed my nerves and the collection of books entertained my boredom. Words on texts of pages grappled my attention but your face wafted on the surface of my subconscious. Soon, I told myself, you’d be walking through the doors of this store. And sure enough you did. Not what I had anticipated, but it was close enough.
There you were.
Tall glass panes stood between us as you graced past the front of the book shop. Pausing in your tracks, my heart skipped as I steadied my shaking hand to wave to you as you raised your hand in a friendly gesture. However, disappointment the weight of boulders sank onto my shoulders when I realized you were greeting the cashier chap behind me. “That idiot’s late again,” I heard him mumble and laugh softly to himself. My head begun to pound. My face grew heated not with embarrassment, but with blood vessels pumping jealously beneath the epidermal layer of my skin. When I turned around, you had already disappeared.
I had to know where you were headed to.
Forcing a smile onto my lips, I said hi to the bout of my anger. I hid my clenched fists behind the counter when he smiled in return and asked me what I needed. Instead of requesting for a book title, I steered my question to asking him what he was reading, what he was studying, and where he was studying, and he had answered them dutifully one by one. His friendliness was overwhelming, and completely melted down the barrier I thought would discourage me from getting my answers. I smiled once more, and thanked him for his input, telling him that I was happy to meet a senior on my first day of school.

A/N: I really love rainy days. It inspires me to write. Or in this case, finish up what I had started some time back. I wanted to make something out of a creepy dream I had, so here it is. Also, I really should stop starting on new stuff and complete my other fics. ._. A stalker fic, comments?
