Oh man, so jealous. Antigua is where I stayed when I did my medical service mission in 2004 (it was just for 10 days though.) I looove Antigua. I would love to go back to Guatemala and explore around though. Did you spend any time in Guatemala City (like, the actual city) or are your parents in Quetzaltenango? I swear I read this whole post but somehow I missed that.

If I sent them some Quetzales do you think they would buy a blanket for me? I have this beautiful, intensely blue blanket I bought in Antigua when i was there that I absolutely adore and I would kill to get another one. It is always the perfect temperature, summer or winter be damned, but I've been scared to use it for the last few years because if it dies I will die too. Those Guatemalans are awesome.
