And now... the plot. This will be the first time I'm handling more than two correspondants in a chapter so be gentle.
Chapter 2
Letter #16 - Katara of the Southern Watertribe to her grandmother, Kanna of the Northern Watertribe, mother of Hakoda, Chief of the Southern Watertribe
Dear Gran-Gran,
I am sorry I left just like that, but dad would have only held me back and I promised.
Please tell him not to come and follow me. I'm a big girl and can take care of myself.

you are like your mother in more than just your talent. If she were here, she would be as proud of you as I am.
Do not let your father deter you, do not apologize for what we both know is right. Your father loves you. And while this love leads him to appreciate you as the gift you are, it also blinds him and makes him fearful of the world you are travelling on your own.
Your task is an honorable one, Katara, and you are right to do what you are doing.
I wish you the strength of the waves and the wisdom of the oceans, the patience of the moon and the courage of its light piercing the darkness.

I will be visiting Kyoshi Island shortly. I hope I won't be inconveniencing you but I have a delivery to you from Sokka. I am currently on board of the "Flying Ostrich Horse". The ship will arrive on schedule, according to the Captain.

Don't leave Kyoshi Island. I have sent Bato and a few trusted men. They will escort you home.

Letter #25 - Kanna of the Northern Watertribe to her granddaughter, Katara of the Southern Watertribe
Katara -
your father has found out which ship you have boarded. You do not have much time, once you arrive at Kyoshi Island, you need to fulfill your promise and leave as soon as possible.
Bato's eldest son has joined the group sent out to fetch you. He promised me that they wouldn't hurt you and bring you home, soon. He fancies you, you know. Be wary.
Pakku should have arrived at the Northern Watertribe by now. I advice you to write to him or Yughoda and ask for their help. You will need every support you can get if you truly intend to honor your brother's last wish, as I know you do. Should Yughoda refuse, remind her that she still owes me for the glove incident.
May Tui and La grant you safe passage and hide you from your followers.

Suki accepted your uniform back. She even agreed to write you a letter and burn it with your uniform. I hope you can read it.
She offered me to stay for a while and train with her and her group, to earn the right to wear the uniform as well, but I declined.
Father is not happy about me trying to fulfill your last requests and has sent Bato and several others to return me home. I had expected for that to happen a lot sooner, but I still don't know what to do about it.
I will now begin my travel to the Northern Watertribe.

There is not much I can do for you child, as much as it pains me to admit. You must be aware that your brother's last wishes - both of them, will be met with heavy resistance. You might even have to stand trial on his behalf. And war heroine or not, this might very well cost you your life.
Do not make your grandmother lose another dearly beloved due to your brother's foolishness. Return home, Katara. You are a master waterbender, a heroine of the war, an icon. Is that not enough?

I have done as you said. The ceremony on Kyoshi Island was brief but all that had to be done was done. I am now travelling through the Earth Kingdom in hopes of losing my followers.
You wouldn't believe it... I have acquired a most interesting travel companion.

A note to the letters to Sokka: In this story, one of the proper ways to grief in the Watertribe is to write letters to the dead and burn them, so the dead my read them. I know that burning them appears to be more of a Fire Nation way but my idea is that something has to be fully destroyed in this world to appear in the next. You will find out more about this in later chapters, though.
I do hope you liked this chapter, even though it was a little darker.
