Second entry for the 13 day challenge.

02 Summary of a Conqueror - The thirteen facts of Sarah Williams

Before approaching your one-time conqueror, it is important to know who she has become. Knowing who she was will only prevent avoidance of past mistakes, not new ones. Therefore, Jareth has drawn upon all sources available to learn and comprehend who it is, that Sarah Williams has become.

One loyal goblin reports, that she still visits that dratted place where knowledge is pushed forward to replace idle fantasies and exorbitant dreams of splendour. Yet, instead of sitting among those that are of dreaming and wandering mind, she has become a chaser of dreams, much like himself. A teacher - he always knew that she was cruel.

A near rendezvous with the Bog of Eternal Stench convinces Higgle-Hoggle to let Jareth know of her deep love and affection for her brother. She remembers what she did to him - and so does he. The knight, by the mere mentioning of her name (painful it was, like speaking through a mouthful of crystal shards) is easily charmed into giving away her passion for great poetry and her dislike for the sometimes cacophonic tunes of her time.

A crafty goblin borrows a book filled with her private thoughts one morning, returning it by evening time, lest she should notice it gone. Through it, the king learns of foiled acting dreams; of a lover sent away; of two mothers buried: one in the earth which she bemourns, the other - which she had strived to please - in disdain. He also learns of the night when the last of her innocence was surrendered and that occasionally, her mind returns to curious thoughts of him, the King of the Goblins, with awe and fear (as he would expect them to).

The most valuable fact learned from this book, however, is that by the year 1999, she has aged by merely thirteen years. The significance and good fortune of this is not lost to him. There is yet time, more so in the Underground than anywhere else, to mend; although this is not the most important fact about the Goblin King’s conqueror.

The most important fact about Sarah is also the most closely guarded one; one of which only Jareth himself is aware. For although she is neither witch nor sorceress, nor any other creature of enchant and magic - although he often wished she were -, her power over the sovereign of the Underground is unparalleled.
