We shall meet again (13 day challenge) - 06

Ha ha! I was beginning to doubt my abilities as a writer with the last two installments (my sanity has always been questionable), but this piece puts me finally back in perspective. Next up: the chapter length piece and the penalty.

06 Respective Perspectives

He chases her through a maze that cannot possibly be the Labyrinth. Ever the predator. He catches up with her, often, and with each encounter he draws closer until he all but pins her to a wall with his body. Somehow she manages to keep evading him, tearing herself away from the force of his voice, the lure of his eyes, even the disaster that is his touch - with great difficulty.

She can sense his anger and frustration, matching her own. Why is he stalking her? Doesn’t he remember that he has no power over her? No right to come this close?

But then he corners her again and this time, there is no escape. Her body stills to listen to his voice, her eyes widen to meet his gaze and a shallow breath parts her lips in anticipation of his touch.

She wakes, shouting his name in frustration.

He chases her through a maze that cannot possibly be the Labyrinth. Ever the fleeting thing. He knows that were it not for the fact, that she draws him to her like the flame draws moths, he would be utterly lost, the chase concluded before it begun. Each time he catches up - calling her name, seeking her gaze and hoping for her touch - she evades him, taunts him.

He can sense her anger and frustration, matching his own. Why does she flee? Doesn’t she know that she has power over him? That it draws him to her - unwillingly willingly? Slave to her power, even if she won’t let him.

But then he corners her again and this time, there is no escape. His voice rings clear to call her out, his eyes burning to meet hers and when her lips part softly he hopes…

He wakes, moaning her name.

Movement in my mirror, a smokey ghost peering out from its’ depths.
Is that you, moving between silver foil and glass?
Haunt my dreams if you will - you know that I won’t give.
The border stretched thin, I see you contemplating.
Dare you to trespass into a territory that is not yours?
Dare I?
Diving into the glass as if it were a lake -
Where are you now?
Rippling glass, pale moonshine and liquid silver.
Are you there, bathed in silver and glass?
A hand, waving in invitation.
Is it you? Do you want me to follow?

I wish… !
