Thank you! Their mother was mentioned briefly in the first draft of this, but I pulled her out on the rewrite, since I think it's likely that Sherlock experienced a bit of tunnel vision trying to work this out and forgot all about her and what role she might have played.

I have an idea for a follow-up that should tie up loose ends if and when it gets written. No promises, though. Thanks for reading. :)

When I first started writing this, I had every intention of doing it in third person, but the more I wrote, the unhappier I was with how impersonal it felt. I'm so glad it worked for you. You've articulated everything I hoped I could capture with this piece.
