I am officially old. It's fresher's week in Aberdeen - there are 17/18 year olds let loose for the first time running all over town. The week began on Saturday and lasts til the Sunday before the start of term (the 27th). So far I've had several nights round my mates houses, a few cheeky bottles of wine and some great times. Oh dear! Welcome to the grown-up world, Ms McF! You have to cut them a bit of slack, though - you were a fresher once.

I was forty when I did my MSc. I wasn't suprised to be classified as a mature student, but I was a little surprised to discover that the university's definition of a mature student was anyone over 23.

Over 23? Yikes! I guess that's an undergrad course and a gap year's difference - and at 17/18, being 23 is going to be a big difference in terms of life experience.

I don't have a problem with the fresher's themselves. Just the amount of them and their sheer enthusiasm!

Me and my friend got asked for ID going into the club and the bouncer actually laughed at us for being born in the 80's. Cos we were old!
