so    today's quandary  and I'm going to cross posted a bit on face book. -  if you found stuff that belonged to an ex,  would you bin it ( Read more... )

depends how long it's been, but normally if it's been a long time, I'd say bin it.

But irreplaceable stuff - it does seem very wrong to bin it. I think with that stuff the right thing to do is to try and contact them to give it back.

I think I'd try to return it. Depending.

Mind, I still have half the worldly goods of my last girlfriend, stored for her when she went on a year's internship -- in 1983. So I'm one to talk.

Or, rent a locker (self-storage bin), store it, and send him the address and key. If he doesn't pick it up -- the storage place bins it all. Solved!

I'd bin the crap but post the important stuff, if it isnt too big. You get it out of your way, he gets important stuff back and you don't actually have to deal with him.

Personally I never have an issue with letting them have things back (reminds me, need to let her know some more mail arrived for her) and if you've had it a while then what's another month in the attic.
I wouldn't make any effort to go deliver it, just say "It's here, you have 28days to collect it at my convenience" after that, burn it ALL
