Beauty is in the eyes...

I had a huge post typed out about this, but it was too long-winded. Basically, it comes down to this: I'm tired of other photographers demanding my opinion on their photos, then berating me when it isn't what they want to hear. I don't feel like its right for me to say "yeah, great" if that isn't what I think. We all have different opinions ( Read more... )

Yeah, I do have a couple of suits, I usually save them for weddings, especially with the colder weather coming in. I might invest in a few pairs of skinny jeans and wear them with boots or something so that I'm not freezing and look like I'm trying too hard, but not my ripped up, painted ones. I don't want to look like just another office suit either. I just find it hard to be motivated to do it most days? I'm fine with getting ready when I know I'm meeting clients or doing something professional, but it's the random occurences that make me wish I'd made more of an effort in the morning... I might give it a go, see how long I can keep it up!

(It's Lynsay here, just don't have an openID or whatever)

I would just go with whatever you feel most comfortable in. Definitely agree with the skinny jeans with boots (Tesco had some nice skinny flare jeans on offer....that's where I got mine from a few weeks ago). Whatever you choose to wear, make sure it's warm!

Yeah, I try to keep practical-ness in there somewhere, living on a hill doesn't really allow for high-heels etc so I just don't bother. I have some nice boots though, just need to figure out how to handle my hair instead of shoving a hat on, and look after my skin a bit.

I think my line of thought is usually "why make an effort when my teeth are so terrible that as soon as I open my mouth it's all people will notice" but I'm starting to realise that might not be entirely realistic!

I don't think it would hurt to look a bit 'put together', but these days you don't have to wear a suit to look professional. You could wear yer skinnies and a tshirt and a blazer, and look wonderful. But then you know me - I hardly set the precedent for 'well dressed'!

Also, I went to the dentist today all by myself. Big brave girl!

thanks petal, I think a make-up artist friend is going to help me learn the best make-up for me, a nice daytime look I think! From tomorrow I'm going to sort out my clothes, try throw out some of the scabby stuff that I probably should have thrown out a while ago, and put my nice clothes in a more accessible form :) hopefully I can stick to it! Nothing wrong with sitting in my jeans if I'm sitting in the house or nipping across to the shop but for anything more I'm going to scrub up a bit more!

OMG big brave you indeed! I think my last dental encounter put me off. During the 2nd last appointment, they gave me a (rather un-needed, I thought) filling which developed a lovely abcess under it, causing insane amounts of pain, followed by another appointment to have the tooth taken out :( boo! x

Your a photographer, and photographers can be bunched into the fashion world image, so it wouldn't help to be a little more edgy and stylish.

Dont go all business like, keep up with the fashion that you like (thats respectable) and give yourself that professional young person look.

But noone wants pictures from a scruffy old man/woman in a warm cardy :P They just look oldfashioned!

Make sure its comfy!

yeah I think you make a good point, people trust me to make them look good, they won't have much faith if I look like a dog's dinner myself! I'm not going to go OTT cause I still have to be comfy and can't wear heels but I think putting some make-up on and doing my hair along with not scabby clothes will make me feel better as well as look better :)

I've just sorted out my clothes and picked out all the ones that can be classed as "decent"! :) x

Aww, I'm glad it's working out for you! I can't help but think people are a bit judgemental about the whole thing, but then I form opinions based on appearance too so can't be hypocritical now!

Controlling my hair will be the hardest part I think. Time to do a Britney? :p x
