Pokemon Alpha Sapphire: Beach Bunny Bingo, Episode Zero

Dec 09, 2014 03:09

Hello Intarwebz! I am back! I am also, currently... well, unemployed, following a move 45 minutes south. The crew at my old place gave me a bunch of going away money, spearheaded by a friend there who I bonded with over Pokemon X, so I thought it was only fair that I used the princely sum of money they gave me to buy Pokemon Alpha Sapphire. Being unemployed also means I have time on my hands! So, lets start a new game!

I don't know anything about Pokemon Alpha Sapphire except that it is an "Enhanced Remake" of Pokemon Sapphire/Ruby/Emerald, and that it has been enhanced in such a way as to take advantage of the anti-frustration features of Pokemon X. This is good, because that means it should largely bypass the things that made me quit Skunk in the Big City.

That's all I know, though, and xyzzysqrl informs me that this is supposed to have a passing beach/sea/water theme. Fair enough. Looking at the starters, I am going to pick Treecko, as I have yet to do a grass starter (Plus I am pretty sure that I have a mudkip and I know I have a Torchic). Now, let's have a look at who our Trainers are this time around.

Picture is being put behind a link because it is big and I do not hate you, gentle readers.

Okay... no. How about... no. I... don't even know what's going on here. I mean, I completly do not like Brendan (Our male avatar) at all. Is he going for a jogger look? And what is the deal with his head? Is that a hat? His hair? Is a pokemon slowly trying to eat him from the skull down? And May is almost worthwhile, except I kinda don't like the pidgeon-footed thing, and that Aunt Jemima headscarf thing is just too unfortunate for words. I am also continually surprised by the design of female characters in these games. I mean, the Pokemon Journey is supposed to take place somewhere around age 10, and if May is 10, I really want to know what they put in the milk in her hometown. I'm sure you can begin your journey at any time after ten, but I can't imagine a passionate go-getter destined for greatness will decide to put off the journey until High-School.

Anyway, no. If I am going to play a character with a really silly design, it is going to be one I designed myself. Meet Cody. He is interested in cute pokemon and cute clothes (Most of which happen to have been designed for girls). I'm going to choose May as my PC inside the game, but this is who I will be imagining as the player character.

Same rules as last time. Aim for posting about once a week but more is fine; play for fun, not 100% completion; name everything I can. I have not settled on a naming theme.

So, I have no idea how this is going to go next session when I actually start the game. Let's find out together!
