To be honest, there's really only two 'Mon here I really care about much, and that's my Treeko(As he was my starter) and my Ralts, because my Ralts is male and while I already have a Gardevoir over in X, I do not have a Gallade. Sadly, his stats don't seem to be anything to write home about, I'm going to have to see about improving that. The others? Well, I reserve the right to cut them if something more interesting comes along, but they still have time to distinguish themselves. That said, I am expecting Zmey to do most of the heavy lifting in this gym. And heavy lifting is a pun, because this gym is rock themed! Woohoo! Play Freebird, man!
I head into the gym and Roxanne greets me at the door. Honestly, I'm a little... underwhelmed? I know its hard to judge ages from the models in this game, but Roxanne looks like she's in her mid-teens at oldest. Then again, that could still make her a veteran, as we ourselves will be beating people multiple times our age in our Pokemon Journey (Barring the game losing all momentum like Skunk in the Big City did, but I hope that doesn't happen). Roxanne declares she became a Gym Leader to apply the lessons she learned in Pokemon Training School, which I guess explains why her outfit kinda has a school uniform vibe, which gives her a slight Hermoine-from-Harry-Potter air.
Roxanne's gym is bigger on the inside, natch, and is set up as a Natural History museum, complete with fossils all over the place. It's actually kind-of impressive, but I don't have any jokes for that, so I will speak no further of it.
As always, Roxanne puts a gauntlet of lieutenant trainers between her and you. Since Zmey only has one Grass move I move Albert up front so I don't exhaust him too quickly, but after the first fight Zmey evolves to a Grovyle, and learns a Bug-type move called Fury Cutter. Hooray! It's not a Grass-type move, but at least it's not a Normal-type move which Rock Pokemon are strong against.
The second Gym Trainer goes down without trouble, and the third leaps at me declaring "I'll make you feel the power of the number-two trainer at this school!". Her attempt to flick me shit is constipated as her Geodude goes down in one hit, leaving me unable to give a crap about her.
Was that too much? I never know.
Anyway, the Gym Trainers are usually not too bad, it's the Gym Leaders you have to watch out for! I cycle my Leaf-Dragon back to the front and go up to challenge for real. The camera pans down her fossil-bearing rockwall and Roxanne strikes an impressively dramatic pose. Fury Cutter is no use against her Geodude, but Megadrain widens a fissure and splits him in half. When fighting her Nosepass, I decide to forgo the preliminaries, and just Megadrain the little rapanui into nothingness.
Roxanne is beaten, and I recieve the Matrix of Leadership! No, wait. I mean the Stone Badge! She assures me that having this badge means that all pokemon below level 20 must obey me, and that I can now use Cut outside of battle. And as an extra something-something, she gives me TM39-Rock Tomb. Note that this DOES technically work on Ghost-Type pokemon, but only for three days. But after that they become Normal type pokemon.
And that's what I've got for now! Sorry, this one was not quite as interesting or jokey as I might like.
