It really depends on what you have liked before in order for me to recommend. If you did like the spirit of Haruhi, I would recomend "Lucky Star". That's a show that is too smart for its own good. :p

I'm sold on Death Note and Red Garden but you probably won't like the endings.

death note was fine for me :D I think the ending was pretty good actually, both sides played out their parts very well in the last "encounter"

I may have to check out Red Garden.

And like I said, I liked Haruhi, I just wish that I could have seen the story arc that has an actual ending at the end instead of a shit load of "filler" after finishing the main story.
