This was probably one of the best weekends I've had in recent memory. Saturday morning started off pretty slow with an annual compliance meeting at my primerica office. Nothing too major.
I got out to Tigercon at about 4 in the afternoon. I actually managed to meet up with my friend Mary pretty quickly. She is the most adorable Ashley from RE4 that you'll ever see. I spent most of the con with her, her younger sister, and 2 of their guy friends.
So what's the first thing we do? We hit up the game room to play some Rock Band 2. That was so much fun, I was nailing most songs on hard first try. When I went up to sing, I made the mistake of doing Sickness (by Disturbed) for my first song. The drummer requested something hard, so I picked the hardest one I knew and just about killed my voice. We ended up playing that for a good hour or so. Let me tell you, playing "Welcome Home" is pretty darn easy after practicing it on a full digital drum kit. Because there were so few people there, we got to just keep playing and switching instruments.
After we finished playing Rock Band, we decided to kill a little time until the cosplay contest, so we went to go see Geist, a band that was playing there. We never would have guessed that the frontman was actually a woman. They were playing some pretty hard metal. I have never heard anyone go from a death growl to alto (I'm guessing that's about what her "normal" singing was at) back and forth 2 or three times in one chorus. We had a lot of fun poking fun at that for the rest of the weekend.
At around 6, we went up to the panel room for the cosplay contest. They were accepting walk-in entries, so Mary and I both entered. There were some pretty good cosplayers. There was a Master Roshi from DBZ that was amazing, a girl dressed as Cammy that had her bottom cut so narrow I felt embarrassed looking at her, a guy dressed as Otogi (aka Duke Devlin from Yugioh) carrying around a boom box playing "Sexy Back". The judges actually really liked my costume. They were surprised by how much I did to make the hat (reshaped it and the red ring), and they liked the overcoat, despite the fraying edges on the white circles on the sleeves. I actually got a great tip on how to fix that :D One of the judges suggested I make two copies of the circle shapes, sew them together, and invert it so now I have smooth edges, then slip-stitch it to the costume.
After the cosplay contest, Mary and I parted ways with her sister and friends and we went down to Silver Spring for the Zombie Walk. She actually brought a second costume, I just zombified my Luffy costume. While we were out there, we met up with one of Mary's other guy friends, who was dressed in a STARS costume (Resident evil reference), but dead and zombie. We started our march around 9, where we had fun terrorizing people in bus booths, pressing on store windows, groaning at pedestrians, etc. The best part was at one point some guy was making fun of us, groaning like a zombie at his friends, then he turned around and I was right behind him, and he started screaming like a little girl, and the best part is that I think Mary got it on film!
While we were doing the zombie walk, a guy with a camera decided to say "none of you had better attack me." So of course, I had to do it. The guy got a picture of me snarling as I "lunged" at him. Apparently he was working for a local newspaper, so I'll have to keep an eye out to see if I was in the news :)
Went back to my place for anime night. While we were in the car, Mary heard "God Knows," so we decided to watch a little Haruhi while everyone else went out to get food. When they all got back, we played "Give me the brain," while Mary and I are still wearing our zombie costumes >D We all watched some Jeff Dunham, then realized it was 2 in the morning after taking DST into account.
So I drove Mary back home and got there around 3. I went in for a minute to use the restroom before I made my trip back home, and apparently her mother was still awake. She invited me to stay the night, so I did.
Mary and I didn't get much sleep, (not like that, nothing happened) we were up for a good while downloading some new music. She liked a lot of the music I had while we were driving, and she said she hadn't updated her ipod in a while, and was in need of new music. I was glad that she actually liked my music taste, I've gotten pretty tired of people criticizing my taste (glares at Christina and Nancy), or them just mildly tolerating it. Apparently she used to play guitar, so we played around with her guitar some. Hurray for tabs, it made me realize just how useless my small hands are for playing guitar >D
Played some Silent Hill 3. That got annoying real quick because we were playing it during the day, so we couldn't see anything until we got the flashlight, and even that was a chore, we had to use a walkthrough just to find the room. Damn creators put the door right next to another, bigger door. Got tired of that so we played Donkey Konga instead.
We then had breakfast and watched some Dane Cook, and got the craving to eat a pancake at a very... amusing time. For those of you who have seen Dane Cook Rough around the edges, you should know why eating pancakes during that show was comical.
Rest of the day was pretty lame, but damn, those were some fun 24 hours.
